I recently met with a local manufacturer who can produce a small trailer that will be ideal for any RC enthusiast who has a small economy car and wants to tow a trailer to the field. At this point he is looking for ideas only and I will soon be his 1st customer. His shop has the ability to weld aluminum to minimize weight. I have a small Toyota (:eek four door and can pull a go kart trailer with ease.
The nice 5x8 trailers you see everywhere have huge axles with heavy duty load capability. You are paying for this with poor fuel economy and wear and tear on your tiny 1500cc motor!!! All my heli stuff, canopy tent and a full cooler weighs less than 200 lbs, so why do I need a trailer that can haul a ton??? My stuff is bulky and long, not heavy though. It would not be intended as a walk-in trailer, more like a "Coffin Format" with a swing lid for access to your gear.

1. What would be the size you would want? 4x6 3x8 ???????

2. How tall should the storage area be 24" 36" ????

3. What would you think it should sell for? (remember, it will be
made of mostly aluminum and not steel and plywood like most are)

4. I appreciate any serious remarks or feedback.

Thanks Robo

Why not just put a Thule carrier on the roof
Then you dont need to find a place to keep it as well as the hassle of backing up with it

Light weight, 4'x6' and 2' tall, on the inside. Works perfect for 3 helis and supplies for me.

Here is what I built:

Don't come off the throttle untill you see your GOD!

Thanks !!!!!
Blake, I wish I would have bought stock in the diamond-plate company before you built your awesome trailer !!! Looks great too. I forgot to mention that my design was not intended to be an RC-model only trailer. Would be a handy utility trailer for trips to the garden store or even a trailer for hauling all of your mother-in-laws junk when she moves in with you (think of it as another excuse to stay out in the shop and dial in your heli I say !)

Keep those suggestions coming please.

Once again, ThanX.
