@ampex456

any chance you can throw a VOM on the adapter cable and give us the pinouts?

i'll hack the end off of one of the 500 extra USB cables i have laying around and wire my own updater chord in a heartbeat if i had that info.

if it ain't broke, break it.

just got back from Toledo with my newly programed 3G. Going to give it whirl tomorrow.
Me too. The update took 5 min at the most. Really easy. The software told you what version you 3G has and tells you what vesrion it has now and what it has been updated too. The software is pretty limited, you can not see any peramiters or anything else. The update was given by the plug using the wire from the sensor to the FBL control unit then pluging in the sensor. Mike had to update the FBL control unit and sensor independently. There is a buton on the USB dongal that has to be pressed, not really sure what it dose. That is most of what i know about the 3G update.

Thanks to Mike and the team at Heli Wholesaler, for the fast and easy update.

Well fired up the new updated v2 software. first flight tail wag still there went through and changed gain still either get wag or a tail that won't hold.

2nd flight dialed gain down picked up into hover wag gone then the chopper just tips over and does chicken dance. I go over and check machine out Cyclics work fine but if I move the throttle stick up it will not add pitch??? Unit is flashing red/green light now??

This is the final straw I am done with this system. It has cost me two sets of blades plus main shafts and main gears.

The tail won't hold or lock in. It is costing me more for flybarless than it is worth!

I flew mine today and the tail twitch is gone. raised the gain to 38% and then lowered the gain to 30% works fine with no twitch. i decided to split the difference and i am running 34% now. Tail holds great in fast tail slides with no movement. Piro consistency is much better. The tail gyro is almost as good as the Gy520.

The rest of the heli flies the same. Great update.

I also reset the whole FLB system and gyro. just for my piece of mind.

Rymps,

What about the elevator bobble? Mine is minimal but would like it gone.

Thanks.

Funny I did not even notice my heli bobble at all today. I will need to fly it again. My 3G did not bobble much at all but would in big loops.

I can’t understand why Align has not included a cable for firmware updates with the new 3G system/kits, seems like it was an oversight. It just plain makes no sense at all. So much effort was made with this system and no cable? Someone needs think this thru next time. So we all have the new 3G kits and there is no way to update the firm ware…..I hope the cables are ready soon thru my local hobby shop/on line retailer.

The likely reason they haven't made cables available is they haven't made any production units yet. Even the one Jeff at HH used to load the update for mine yesterday didn't look like a production piece.

I got mine out to fly today after the update. The wag is better but not gone. I can't really tell any difference in the cyclic performance. My first flight I lost the throttle servo. I had to hover it around till it ran out of fuel. As it was starting to lean out (fuel magnet, no header tank) it got pretty squirrely and tail was going really nuts. It kicked twice while it was running out of fuel. It probably took a good minute and a half for it to go from running fine till it finally died. I had to put it down on the ground for the last few seconds as I was afraid I couldn't save it if it got any worse. It was trying to tip over on the ground till I pulled full negative into it and planted it solid. Upon inspection I found that I must have knocked the servo lead for the throttle servo loose when removing or reinstalling the 3G unit, I plugged it back in and fueled up for another flight. This time I richened the mid and high a couple clicks on both. Tail was a little smoother but a long way from solid. No more tail kicks though. The two in the previous flight are the only ones I have ever experienced.

How many threads are you going to post this exact same garbage into?

I too had mine updated at the Toledo show. I had just got the kit in the mail the day before but mine still had the v1 software on it. I haven't even flown mine yet and I'm sure it will work just fine when the time comes.

It sounds obvious, but you must do the setup again once the unit has been updated. Am I wrong?

OMG, sounds like Rich is having some really bad luck with the 3G. Sorry about that. But, can someone with reasonable stick time on the 3G and decent setup and flying skills put some honest and unbiased input on the system. I'm trying to get an overall feel for the system. I'm thinking of doing the upgrade on my 700. Actually, i've been teetering back and forth since the 3G was released. Any useful input would be appreciated.

I'm not saying Rich is doing anything wrong, but the people I've seen that have the most problems either don't understand the setup process or take shortcuts. I know not everyone is having these same issues.

i have two 700s. One with the 3g and the other with the flybar. I fly both, sometimes back to back. I would say im an intermediate pilot. I can do normal flight, very low inverted hovers, tail slides, tic tocs, rainbows, practicing getting piro flips down. The first time I flew the 700 with the 3G, I hated it. I followed the mounting the instructions showed. It felt a little mushy sometimes, sometimes it felt like there was a big delay with my inputs and what the heli did. Sometimes it started to drift and the tail would kick. I noticed all this on the first 2 or 3 flights. Then I redid the mounting with a spartan plate, stiffer tape, and also strapped it down. For me, that made a huge difference. The heli had a more locked in feel. When I compare it to my flybar tho, to be honest and this is just my opinion, I see a difference in some power gained (nothing astonishing tho, but noticable), and during tic tocs, it does seem to drift away less so it does track a little better. But overall, i did not see any crazy improvement. I fly it as hard as I fly my flybarred heli. To me, there is a small difference, but nothing to jump around for. You can buy the flybarless system if you want and for me it is working well, but in the end its still me that needs practice. Going flybarless wont take you to the next level of flying because you still need to be able to fly at the next level. One thing I will say is that the v1 piro consistancy is not too great. Sometimes it feels ok, and sometimes I can def see its not constant. Hopefully the new firmware will fix this. I have not flown any other flybarless systems so I cant comment on them. But I am planning on getting a Total G and putting that on my flybarred 700 when they come out
