Long story short: I got out of R/C Helicopters in late 2007, and have just gotten back into them recently.

I have a used GY601 I bought in 2007 thats been installed on my Knight 50 3D. I was having some trouble with the tail wagging, but I believe it turned out to be a broken tail servo wire.

Before I got out of the hobby, I installed a NIB S9251 servo on the tail, but I never got to test fly it.

Yesterday, I got to do my first flight since my Hiatus.

Setup is: Compass Knight .50 3D, YS50ST, CYB MP5, 4x 9451s, GV-1, GY601/9251, Switch Glo Pro, R921 RX, Duralite 5.3v Regulator, Fromeco 2600mAH Relion battery.

I did two flights, with the engine set to the manual recommendation (1.75 on main, 1 turn on low). I had some trouble with the tail wagging, so I figured it was the engine being rich or maybe my gain settings were too high (Gain was 34).

Today, I was just checking my electronics on the bench, and my 9251 servo is making a very weird noise. It's not the normal buzzing digital servos make, it sounds higher pitched? It only makes it once and awhile, it's very distinct.

Has anyone had anything similar?

Thanks!

check the gears...
The gears inside the 9251 are all plastic except the output gear.

They are notorious for wearing out...when they wear they make funny noises...I crashed a heli one time due to tail servo gears failing in flight.

the gears are super cheap if you need to replace them...I'd at least crack the case and take a look at the gears...also..when you spin the output gear with your finger...does it feel funny?

There are some spots where it feels "sandy".

I took apart the case, the gears look decent. I don't see any stripped teeth.

There can't be more then 3-4 flights on this servo, if that.

Sandy...
Yeah...you need new gears...that sandy feel is an indication you need new gears...

sometimes the gears "Whine" When worn also

I think I actually have some gears on the wall at home...let me check tonight....I might be able to send you some...

I appreciate it, but it looks like the hobby store has the ones I need in stock. I might just run down there and grab them (I'm eager to get in the air).

Now, I just need to replace the "1,2,3" gears, right? I'm guessing those are the plastic ones?

Thank you very much for your help and offer!

Well, ****. It looks like the servo went TU.

I installed/greased the new gears, reassembled, and now I'm not getting any response from the servo when it's hooked up to the Gyro

I'm going to play with it some more, but it looks like I'll need to head to the LHS and get a new servo (Perhaps the BLS251).
