Start up with stock and if later on, if you don't like the performance, then go with something else.

Team Synergy, Rail blades, Team Scorpion, V-Team

The servos, motor and esc are outstanding on the esp. No need to upgrade. Governor on the esc is not that good so most people choose not to use it and just use curves or 100% flat.

60% of the time, it works every time!

My 500 ESP has the stock Align servos.. Ice 100 ESC and the Scorpion HK-3026-1600KV motor on a 14t pinion. The stock motor is not too bad on the 13t.. you should be fine with it for awhile. My Scorpion on the 14t is set on governor mode with the 100 Ice at 2875 rpm..

I did not try the Align ESC.. Although I'm running a 250SE and a 450 Pro on one..

Mine is stock and I love it. I also fly a new 600esp that is on 8s and is one sick beast but the 5hundo is by far my most agile bird I have... It Rocks

+1 for stock setup. It works out well for that bird. Just make sure you go no less than 6s and at least 3000mah (30c).

If you look at the Scorpion 3024 series specs the 1400 is the most powerful.

Stock. Mine flies great. Plenty of power. I get 7 minutes out of the stock set up 100-80-100 throttle curve in idle 1 and a 6s 3000mah battery. Motor isn't even really warm when its done and neither is the battery. I dont do hard 3d however.

Honestly the stock motor is ok for flying around.

I've owned 3 Trex 500's and found the poor stock motors to become very warm. (between 55, and 65 degC)

Not bad motors, my one 500 had 300 flights on when it was sold, crashless, and motor still fine.

Concentrate on your weaknesses and your strengths will reward you!

I had the Align 500L, and upgraded to the Scorpion 3026 1600kv, its a bolt on replacement that runs on the same ESC, and lipos. The Scorpion has crazy power and is more than enough for stick banging. I have also flown the New Align 500M and it feels a bit less powerful than the Scorpion I own, and yet costs $15 more on average. IMHO the Scorpion 3026 1600kv is the way to go....
The style of flying has a lot to do with performance, If you just want to hover around and do some mild sport flying the 500L does the trick, but for power and mild to hard 3D the Scorpion or 500M are the way to go. Same with the lipos, the 3000Mah are bricks at around 500grams or more, and are poor performing for 3D since they weigh soo much. The upgrade motors need 30C or more and need to be around 400g for good performance. Again if you just want to hover and do mild sport flying you can try your luck with the cheap packs, just don't expect them to hold up under load.
