9254 Failed 10 seconds after landing R50v2!
I've had the same 9254 tail servo on my Raptor since August 2004. I am absolutely not complaining, the servo lived a long life. But I will describe the symptoms of one that is ready to fail, as I've lived it yesterday and today.

One minute the helicopter was totally normal, the next it started being sluggish in left turns. It also acted somewhat as if the gain was too high (wag) for 2-3 seconds at a time. I brought it down, was not too sure what the problem was, but decided the servo mounting tape needed to be changed. I was using the CSM thick tape, which is quite soft. I also have a small zip-tie as a safety in case the tape ever let go.

Upon looking at the tape without the zip-tie this morning, I decided everything looked all right, including the servo which was nice and free when turned by hand. I went to fly the heli today, and as soon as it took off, it felt weird, like it took an extra second to lock into its heading.

I immediately decided to not lift if higher than baby-auto height and gave it small left-right commmands. It was clear there was something wrong. I would easily pirouette right, but was slow to start pirouetting left. I brought it down, having decided not to chance it, since I knew of the reputation of the 9254 to fail rather suddenly.

Well, believe it or not, no sooner had I brought the heli to the ground and engage throttle lock that the tail went hard over to the right after I gave it full left-right commands a couple of times!!

This was my shortest-ever flight that did not end in a crash And now I'm thinking or replacing it by a different kind of servo, either Hitec 6975 or JR 8700G, the latter of which I have on hand.

Again, not complaining, but it does behoove one to check out anything which is out of the ordinary. Words to the wise...

My heli spending has gone way down since I got a Honda 919 :-)

what gyro are you using? if your using a futaba gyro i would not use the 8700g servo. upon startup the servo deflects all the way to one side and binds(not good)
