The newer Futaba radios do not have a back up battery any more.If I am not mistaken they use a flash type card in them like what is in your digital camera. I have a 9c and a 10 c and there is no mention of a back up batterty in the manual.

I am always afraid of this happening. It would be expensive but I always want to splurge and buy a second Tx so I dont have to worry about down time.

If you dont have one already I bet you wish you had a computer software interface to backup model memory to your PC!

for JR radios, maybe spektrum too?

I use it with my 9303 to backup my model memory...and you can also create/edit models in the computer and update your Tx. Sometimes it is easier/faster to make changes on the screen...but that is up for debate since it is also easy to tweak numbers in the Tx menu for most.

No computer interface yet on Spektrum which is retarded.
It has a serial port for gods sake.
No PC interface is a software issue. Some real idiots programmed the DX7 for as nice a radio as it is.

I literally never use the word literally right.

Yeah I looked and don't think the program will even work with the DX7.Im with mckrackin. They really should of made a backup system for these radios or tell us how to reset it,less work for them and less down time for us but they made it the other way around. Its sent in so I hope to get it back soon, feels like I lost my best friend and this sooo sucks ..

The irony about the discussion of the backup battery is that users screamed for years about having to replace the battery every 3 years and that required sending in the transmitter and if the battery croaked before you sent it in for replacement all the model memory was lost.....

Wow that sure sounds like a PoS design. You would figure in the 'modern' day of computers they would be able to figure out a way to handle data storage and recovering from non-graceful shutdowns on the devices.

I could see how Random Access Memory would have to be 'kept alive' with juice but who cares about a graceful shutdown if you can just read the information from flash on the next POST.

Well on the bright side getting a pair of DX7's isn't THAT expensive, but sheesh this sounds like the early 1980's where it was a status symbol to have TWO Jaguars because ONE was always in the shop hahaha.

You could always go oldschool and write it down on paper.
THEN....

.... I'll be looking for a new thread: My dog ate my TX back-up log.

If you do that,im sure you'll be charged for any minor repair if you do have to send it in.Not saying you, just saying.

Now thats funny haha .Once I get my radio back im doing what I started in the past 2 months.I copy and paste or write myself a email with all info then send it to my saved "heli stuff" file .If I can't remember somthing I go to my email haha.

Carey,
If you go to google and type in "DX7 backup error" you'll see its happend alot.Seems you can change a battery as long as you "don't" turn the power on with no battery in the radio.I don't think this has happend to every DX7 out there but im not about to try it when I get my radio back LOL.If I ever get a extra DX7 i'll do it then and video it so everyone can see .

1WOLFS1,
To be honest I was kinda worried it would take a month or so because it took 5 weeks to get a JR DS8900G back that I sent out a while back.Few people told me I would have my Radio back in a 2 weeks and it took sooo long with the servo because I sent it in when they had the recall's for the DX6i and updates for the Spektrum rx.Thanks sir and yes,i'll be flying as soon as it gets here ..

lucky
i guess that's what i was.

i was working on the heli and forgot to turn off the tx (DX7SE) before i placed it in the metal case. the following morning, i went back to working on the heli and when i took TX off of the case, that's the only time i realized my mistake, total tx blackout. plugged it in the charger and all was well. nice time to cycle the battery
