HobbyWing ESC PENTIUM 100-HV WIRING QUESTION
I have a hobbywing Pentium 100-HV 12S esc and would like to know what is the function of the small black wire that is attached with the larger NEG battery wire?

The instructions make no mention of this wire.

It's for "soft start". The intention is to connect this wire before the main negative to allow the caps to charge slowly. The later Platinum ESCs have a very obvious resistor wired into the small lead and small connector.

You sure that wire is not addressed in the instructions?

Hello and thanks for your response!
I'm quite sure the manual doesn't address it. You can see your self:

http://www.hobbywing.com/upload/manual/hw-04.pdf

Can you be so kind as to point me to a wiring diagram or explain how it should be wired?

Should it be connected to the RX battery permanently?

That small black wire is used to eliminate sparks when you plugg your battery. Here is a instruction from a different brand or diffferent name but I think the same esc, I hope its help...

There is a thin black wire attached with the negative input wire (black color, thick) of the ESC of Platinum-150A-OPTO, Platinum-70A-HV,
Platinum-120A-HV, it is used to eliminate the spark when the battery pack is connecting with the ESC. Please use it in the following
sequence:
1. Connect the positive input wire (red color, thick) of the ESC to the positive pole of the battery.
2. Connect the thin black wire to the negative pole of the battery.
3. As soon as you hear the special tone “♪123”, connect the negative input wire (black color, thick) of the ESC to the negative pole of the
battery immediately (in 3 seconds).

What I did on mine is I just disregard that wire(thin black wire) and do my normal wiring..

ahha..well thanks. That does make sense. Although since my (and most) plug does not allow an individual connection to the main wires.

I guess I'll just ignore it also.

thanks again!
