Flybarless 90
I am building a Flybarless 90 using the new SK-720 but I have not decided on a head. What are some good heads for the 90?

If you have a flybarless 90 some photos would be nice so I can see equipment placement.

I've been using the G-Force head So far it's been working great. The head geometry plus going in a little on the servo arms make the setup pretty much spot on for best servo resolution. I'll post more pics of my latest component layout.

Nice looking head, where did you purchase it?

Is the blade height the same as stock or did you lower it to get better performance?

I purchased direct from their website. The height is exactly the same height as the stock head. I don't think you should try to lower it anymore. The stock height is lower than other typical heads due to the flybar cage being on top. Personally I think the height is perfect. Other heads I tried, the height was too high.

I have also been looking at those Align 700 flybarless heads. They are a lot cleaner looking than the G-Force. They seam to be very popular and get better reviews than the RJX heads.

Problem with both the Align head and the RJX head is they both sit too high. Much higher than stock. Furthermore the distance from center mainshaft to control arm ball is too short. When I used the RJX head I had to create spacers (see pic) in order to get better servo resolution. The Align suffers the same problem. The G-Force head is out the furthest possible. Any further the link has the chance of binding and popping off.

I get exactly 11 degress CYCLIC pitch at 100 CG and 70 CR in the Vbar.

I used the RJX head and it was fine. I did not make any spacers and I did not lower the head. We did this on 2 different R 90's. We both placed the gyro sensor on top of the servos just like in the pic above.

Yup no spacers and not lowering works, its not just not as optimal. All flybarless systems can adapt to non-optimal mechanical setups. Those systems control loops just have to work harder. Furthermore, servos have to work harder as well when servo resolution is not fully utlilized. Take it for what its worth. Personally id rather have the mechanicaln setup as best as possible....but that's just me.

Not sure how lowering the head will improve the servo resolution...

You are correct, it doesn't Was actually just addressing two things in the same paragraph.

So yes other heads WILL work. The mechanical deficiencies inherent to adopted heads for the r90 can be compensated with software settings within the flybarless unit(s). I've just found by testing both setups, havinh mechanical straight first then adjust with software as needed worked best for me.

As Puma stated, it will not make any difference. The G Force setup will improve resolution though as the pitch arms are spaced further out from the spindle's axis. This is where the G Force head is an advantage.

Also, keeping the head as low as possible keeps the C of G as close as possible to the centre of the heli which is also a very important advantage.

I have purchased the G Force head for my R90 VMAX but still undecided on whether to go for the SK720 or VBAR...?????????
