NEW Breakable torque tube mod.
Every time I crash, I ended up stripping the front TT gears. No exceptions.
So, I thought about for some time how to make brakable torque tube.
And I finally devised this mod. I used ballpoint pen plastic holder and also used small plastic holder to put inside and rotate freely.
and I fixed this rotation with 2mm acrylic rod to brake when got sudden impact. (some kind of JESUS PIN)

I think metal material is better than plastic, but I couldn't find
right size within my stuffs, so I used plastic instead.

Today, I flew 10 flights with this torque tube on.
I tried 3D acrobatics with 3,400HS. No problem at all.
After flight I checked JESUS PIN and It was very good condition with no minor scratches.I think It's strong enough to endure torque forces.
But, unfortunately, I did not crash today so I can't verify not stripping front gear.
Someday, If I crash I'll post the result.

I believe, This mod works, If you use proper material(JESUS PIN) and You'll never strip the front gear.

Again, this mod is not certainly proved yet, so If you try, try this at your own risks

No vibs at all. (center the two torque tube pieces is must )
Same as normal torque tube.

I just worry about it saves the front TT gear or not when crash.

Yep, prey me to crash.
OR If you can't wait, try this mod. easy to make and easy to experiment

Actually, I crashed today when doing inverted back circle, heli hit the small branch and fall down.
main rotor broke but front/rear TT gear survived and unfortunately my mod also survived. => result, NOT PROVED YET.

So, you are saying that you would rather have the TT break than the gears when you crash.

That is a hard call.

I mean something has got to give when you crash.

Although I don't have a pro (yet), I think the reason for the mod is because the TT gears are hard to replace and I'm willing to bet the TT itself is much easier to get to. I could be wrong, but this is what I'm guessing from looking at the pro up close and what others have told me. I think it's a cool mod nonetheless though, kudos!...now where was I, dh/dt = BS-dx/dt

That's a nice idea, but why not just use the black Align TT which breaks whenever you touch the tail blades? You can get 2 for $10. It is a lot lighter than that silver metal torque tube.

Thanks for reply.
But, many ppl misunderstand about black TT.
As far as I know, most of the time front TT gears strip in a crash.
And me also use black TT but still front TT gears strip in a crash.

I may be crazy, but just increase the tail fin height to pretect the tail blades from a ground strike!

its not so much a ground stike that is required to strip your tail gears. its more to the effect if the tail blades hit anything but air while under power then the gears are going to strip.

but it is my opninion that if you run the wires through your frame properly that it is easy to fix and i prefer it over the belt tails because how easy it is to detach your tail boom
Who cares... its just money...

Hitting grass IS considered a ground strike for the tail blades. Simply increase the length of the bottom of the tail fin so that it barely touches the ground when the skids are on the ground. You can use a piece of thin music wire in a loop for the extension of the tail fin!

Or just use the black TT so that if you do hit the tail in the grass, all you have to do is replace the torque tube. The gears stay intact.Avant RC

Someone suggest me to use another bearing near the mod.
It will prevent potential vibs. and also would help to break easily/clearly when crash.
I think that's a good idea.
If this mod not save the front gear, I will change 2mm rod to 1mm rod.

Thank you for your attention for this article
Some people say good idea, some people laugh and some people sarcastic ...
Haha, anyway THE FINAL RESULT WAS SUCCESSFUL.
but I had to chage some metrials and undergo trial and errors for this success.
So, this plastic tube method is not working. I changed outer tube to 5mm(O.D.) * 3mm(I.D.) aluminium tube and inner rotator to 3mm steel shaft with 1mm hole for stopping acrylic pin.
Yes, I changed to 1mm acrylic pin instead of 2mm.
when I used 2mm pin, Front gear always stripped when crash. So I realized anti torque for this heli is not strong. small pin is enough.
Even 1mm pin is too strong for this purpose, so I just drill the one side of the outer tube 1mm hole and stopped rotating by 1mm acrylic pin.(just half penetrated)

With this mod, I never stripped front gear after several crashes.
It was one of the remarkable mod through my rc life

If you want I'll take several pics and post.

<Attention>
This mod should need proper meterial and precise technic, so not so easy to implement. so have some risks.
But, if you follow exactly as my mod, you will be successful, I believe.

I'd be interested in something like this on my 600 esp. I stripped the front gears a few times. I'd like to see a strength test for this mod. I doubt the quality control on the gears allow for small variation in strength from gear to gear though. I guess a rough estimate would work for finding a material that would sheer at the right force.
