flying in the tropics
so here are some pics of the heli and from the heli. This was on the island of Koh Chang in Thailand, south of Bangkok. (look it up) The shots of the heli on the beach are at White Sands Beach. The aerial shots are from another location 8km south.
For those of you that had to deal with ice and snow ( or still dealing with it), eat your heart out!! SORRY!! The weather was a very comfy 28C with beautiful beaches and outstanding sunsets!!
For the record if you ever get the chance to fly from the beach, DONT. I spent several days taking my helis apart, washing the sand off of them and spraying with WD-40. One had to have main bearings cleaned and regreased.

hope to post a video soon.

Yeah that video downlink looks awesome!

Can you put your copter in 'hover mode' while you watch
the display? Or do you fly and look down?

Whats the name of that setup?
Nice pics!

nice setup.. love the little monitor.. one thing, the aerial shots look a bit blurry? Almost looks like you may have been shooting in infinity mode?

Thanks guys,
this was actually our first "on site" shooting. We went down to get some demo footage. So we still have much to learn.
The setup is from "Helicam Solutions". That is the "E4" mount and uses a "Range" video downlink system. We got them as complete sytems, camera mount, mount radio system, video downlink sys, monitor, air pump (for retracts), ect. It is a two man setup. The person with the monitor is my camera operator. I am flying the heli. And since i do not have an autopilot yet, no i cannot look down
In those sunset beach shots i had a cut airline (SUV rash) and could not operate the retracts (worked fine next day). We were rained out all day and then while sleeping back in the hotel the crew called and said it was clear and could we try the beach now. So we rushed out and did a quick 2 tanks.
The camera is in auto focus mode i think. We use a video cam and pulled theses stills from that. So they may be a bit blurry. I will talk to my camera guy and see.
