Flies away in inverted nose in hovering
I notice that whenever I do a flip with my Evo50 converted SDX and try to get it into inverted hovering, it always tends to be nose up and flies away from me. This however does not happen in normal upright flight with the swash statically balanced. So I check the weight balancing and find out that the heli is seriously tail heavy. To my astonishment, the nose needs 260g to balance with the tail. So, I take out the horizontal fin (about 25g of saving) and change the SD-G metal tail case back to the stock plastic one (the SD-G metal tail is 25g heavier!!). I end up adding 60g to the nose to get the balance done with the tail.

You could try to rearrange your electronics to put the heavier stuff towards the front but it sounds like you've done what you could. Generally you want to refrain from adding weight to balance CG but it is fine as a last resort.

What size Rx pack are you using? I personally would like to use a Rx pack with the right weight to balance CG so I don't have to add weight to balance CG. Find CG when you have a half talk of fuel.

I had the opposite problem with my SDX. I was using too heavy of a Rx pack and switched to 2200 2S RFI packs to balance my CG.

I am using a 7.4v 2s lipo and have it in the battery tray. The battery pack is definitely not heavy enough.

You can just use the weights for now. When you're in the market for a new pack find a pack that weighs 60 grams more than your current pack.

Hi rudyy

Get some carbon boom supports and a carbon vertical fin. Will probably be enough to sort it out.

Adding weight is a last resort for me.

Hi rudyy

Quick UK Sceadu boom clamp. Cut off the 'ears' and sanded and polished the whole thing.

Saved a few more grams from the tail.

Do you have the SDX SWM servo tray? If so you could install your rudder servo in the front...LIVE IN THE NOW!

No, actually this is a HPM SDX using the Evo50 servo tray. I take a look at the Evo50 servo tray and notice that there is an empty servo slot that can fit a servo in, but not sure if anyone has ever done it.

I converted my Evo to a SDX also
The Evo was designed to balance with a NiMH pack
When you run the Evo in SWM/CCPM configuration
you need to put the NiMH battery on the front tongue
and the RX in the battery compartment
Balance comes good that way
I'm using a 5 cell 2000mah 4/5 A sized
I'm running an extra Servo in the mech mount
for in flight carb mixture adjustment
