Don't ask me what the technical differences are but I can tell you that they will not work with each other....

I'm sure that one of the technally oriented folks will give you a page of technical information about them....

PS-- You are younger than me !

I thought the dual conversion x'tal is actually half of the specified freq. Or something crazy like thatHeli-itis sufferer.

Conversions or heterodying mixes two freqencies and produces 4. The original two, the sum, and the difference.

The reciever uses the difference.

The crystal you can change actually controls the freqency thats injected so that the first IF (intermediate frequency or the difference) comes out as a standard freqency for the second stage.

On a dual conversion that happens twice with the second injection frequncy being the same on all recievers. Thats created by a crystal you can't change.

From memory , single conversion receivers/crystals use an IF of 455Khz with the changeable cystal being 455KHz off the 'selected' frequency , dual conversion receivers use IF's off 455KHz and 10.7Mhz with the IF of the changeable crystal being 10.7Mhz off the 'selected' frequency .At the end of the day , it gets dark .

Oh My Now My Head Hurts
Cudda: Please Make the Pain Go Away - " You taught me the In's and Out's of the 401" Thank's in advance.

Here's what I have going on:

I just purchased crystals for my Hi /Low FM Dual conversion Futaba Rx's since I have a few spares laying around.

What they sent me were single conversion RX Crystal's.

The add plainly stated the crystals were Dual Conversion and now I'm severely conflicted What to do / What to DO .....

Are they Safe ??? Please give me your wisdom

It's a very reputable vendor : But seem's I'm getting my toes stubbed.

Thank's Cuda / Jack

Safe is a matter of interpretation.

If they are SC they won't work in a DC receiver. If they do by chance pass enough signal through the second stage to make the servos move your range will be about 10 feet.

So.......the end result is NO.

Read this and you should understand..
http://www.torreypinesgulls.org/radios.htm

It's a bit dated (but then so are crystals ) and I don't agree with everything he says opinion wise but for the most part its technically correct.
