JR's Pricing - Lets keep it here
Hi guys,

Recently, all I've been seeing around here is people's opinion on JR's pricing... Honestly, it gets abit frustrating when you go to a thread about a technical issue with a particular JR heli, and 3 posts down, it becomes an argument over JR's prices...

So, here is a place where you could all state your views and opinions, and hopefully we'll all learn something from it.

I'll start

I would NOT like to see JR lower their prices IF that translates into lower quality parts and kits. I will continue to pay for JR's quality for as long as I can afford them.

If they can manage to keep the quality the same or improve it, and still lower their prices, even better... As simple as that.

Now lets hear your opinion.

Regards,
G

my opinion is that we're modellers/hobbyists hence there will always be a large portion of our population who will always complain.

at the business end, and those who know, they'll tell you that they hardly make any money in this marketplace, and hence it's hard to even be around.

I say you get what you pay for in this hobby, simple as that. But that doesn't mean that the machine will be perfect and free of bugs that the factory pilots should have routed out.

Oh, and if you the BEST quality, go for Hirobo.

Hi guys

You see lots of guys complaining here on RR about increased prices. The US has had a stable currency for ever..... and price listings have never really changes...... But in the last few years, the $ exchange rate has fluctuated a lot. I really don't thing the importers are to blame.

I have lived in South Africa for most of my life, i have seen the exchange rate vary from about R6 to $1 right up to R18 for $1. Made importing hobby good a real roller coaster.

Regards
Paul

PS: George, great idea to keep 'price whining' in one place.

Thanks G from bringing it all together here, let's hope everyone will play along.

I can attest to what Pauly is saying (Btw Paul, hope things are well your side ). I'm still in South Africa and well in the loop with the local distributors, it's never someone just sitting somewhere and saying "Oh, we need to make more money on this". There's always other factors involved and alot of time it's exchange related. You never know living in South Africa what the next batch of parts is going to cost and nobody can predict either without shooting themselves in the foot, you wait till the stuff and invoice is in hand and then you know how much it cost. It's crazy, one day a mainshaft is $30, then a month later $40. You just never know.

Of course it doesn't stop with exchange ever. There's shipping and whole basket case full of factors that influence these things. Sometimes even a problem with the guys manufacturing the specific parts in question throwing spanners in the works. Argh I can write books on things that could go wrong....

That all makes sense what you guys say here. But the main complaint was that they raised the price for the Frame by 100% and there is nothing to justify that.

is that a orchestrated move by the distributor, or the result of other policies at work?

you also have to factor in how certain businesses work etc. . I was told by one shop that the distributor for the 12X radio didn't want to buy them in at a large enough quantity for discount so that's why they're were so damn expensive at the time.

It's all these subtle little things going on that we're not privy to. Of course if it were for everyday stuff, like groceries, people have a right to complain etc. . but then groceries are so common that they would take their business elsewhere anyway. .

If it is an issue of currency exchange/shipping cost or whatever then why has the cost of a kit not gone up? Have the cost of JR servos or radios gone up as well? Not from what I have seen. I bought into the Vibe 50 because it was a good quality kit for a decent price (including spares) and then Horizon does a MAJOR price jack. Not cool. Hate to say it but it looks like one more season or one more major crash (which ever comes first) I will have to say good bye to JR and hello to Align. Align parts prices never seem to rock and roll like JR.

I for one want to see as low a price as possible - but NOT on the expence of the quality I get in JR stuff. I realise there is a price difference beween eg. Align and JR.

BUT: I want the same prices all over (ex tax.)! THAT'S unfortunately NOT the case! European prices on JR, Futaba and other stuff are well above US prices due to price policing by those manufacturers together with respective distributors.

I personally have not seen any price increase from the places I buy parts from. I usually get stuff from either heli direct or hobby hut, and while JR parts a bit expensive, they are comparable to most other brands. I really don't see what all the complaining is about.will wash your heli for a quarter

Topher, I tend to agree. I just got in to JR, and I don't really see their prices as an outlier in any way. I also buy parts for an Align heli and a couple of Min Airs. I don't see any issue with JR prices. The only real price issue I have is with nitro fuel!

Sick of people bitching about prices of JR/MA stuff. Buy something else or work harder. Buy fewer models, so you can afford to maintain a higher end one, make choices, don't feel entitled to have everything, most of us don't.

I'm actually surprised that more people are not pissed off by the hike in Vibe 50 parts. I had to replace the frames on mine a few months ago at a cost of about $49 for the G10 frameset, the same part is listed at $100 now (readyheli). You guys really see nothing wrong with that? A Vibe 50 swash is now worth $104, a fuel tank $25! Don't get me wrong, not all the Vibe spares prices are out of whack, but the few that I have mentioned really stand out as questionable.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and to those that see no problem with this thats fine, but to me it is a little disconcerting.

look around for best prices.

In this very RR home page, click on "heli proz"; it has your chassis adverticed for $54.99 and not for $100 as found by you at readyheli .

*heli parts/JR vigor/vibe/SG, I guess page 5 or 6.*

JR Vibe 50 Main frames went from $46.99 @ Readyheli to $99.00 @ RH
Why did a Vibe 50 Swashplate go from $35.99 @ RH to $105.99 @ RH
Why did a Vibe 50 fueltank go from $10.99 to $23.99 @ RH
Why did a Vibe 50 Landing gear set go from $10.99 to $24.99 @ RH
Why did a set of Vibe 50 flybar paddels go from $9.99 to $23.99
WHY????????????????????????????????????????

Why?
Was it inflation? No that kind of increase is not inflation
Was it currency exchange rates No

Answer =

Or a need to bolster sagging margins...

I understand that other retailers have lower prices at the moment. From what I understand Horizon Hobby is the distributor of JR for North America. All the retailers get there JR parts from HH who sets the prices. We will see what happens over the next few months, but as all the retailers sell out of current parts stocks and re-order new stock from HH (at higher prices) their parts prices will go up to reflect the jacked price. Retailers will have no choice but to pass the price increase onto us. I think Readyheli just happens to be a head of the curve on pricing.

Ready Heli was only out of stock on a few parts caused by the
rush to stock up on parts due the JR/HORIZON part price $$$$
increase gouge.

When Ready Heli replaced their inventory levels on the 3 or 4
parts that were out of stock, they raised every price to the
new HIGHER PRICES set by JR/HORIZON HOBBIES for Vibe 50 parts.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about. When was the last time you totaled a tank or a swashplate in a crash? Do any manufacturers guarantee that their parts prices are not going to go up?

No offense to anyone, but if a price increase of a few parts is going to blow your budget then perhaps you're flying too expensive of a machine to begin with. As a matter of fact, that's exactly why I'm not flying something more expensive than my Vibe 50. I have no desire to fly something I can't afford to keep in the air.

Fly within your means, not beyond them....

Is there a shop internationaly on the web were one can get Vibe parts??
No big deal? Well next time you total your frame or your swash let's see what you will say then about the prices. It's not that most people cannot afford it it's just that's it's rude towards the customer. Wounder what people would say if that would happen to their sparepart for their cars next time they bring it to service ??
Oh and by the way there nearly is not any 50 out there that cost more then the Vibe now. Maybe a Hirobo evo 50 ex that's it.
