I have a few eBay stores I deal with and we have been going through PayPal only for a while... Saves them the fees and they are the reputable sellers so service is excellent and we both save money
Try it, send them a question on the item and going with PP only, you can prolly get a better price, and they don't have a problem with saving money, just be careful with the small time sellers

That stinks winginit69 Sorry to hear that...
I also only buy on eBay and I quit selling there a long time ago. I use RcUniverse if I have anything rc related to sell(free)...
As for bad sellers or buyers, just keep your cool and if you use PayPal contact them.... IMHO PayPal is a must, if a seller doesn't have PP I don't buy from them, and same for buyer, must have something going on and its not worth the heartache. Stick to reputable people, and check the feedback...

I'm done selling on ebay. first you have listing fees then you have fees once you sell then when you get paid paypal (ebay) takes 3% then if you withdraw using the paypal card they charge you again. Screw ebay and paypal they are a ripoff before you know it you only get $180.00 from a $200.00 sale.

Ebay SUCKS and PayPal SUCKS equally hard. Read 'em and learn.

Alternatives are already in the works which in the near future will put a major market share hurt on both of those corrupt enterprises -- leaving them to be used almost exclusively by a shrinking number of half-baked humps and other mindless morons who enjoy being regularly raped during online transactions.

Gimbal... that has been my personal experience regardless of your lame opinion and I've been using them for 13 years. I use Craigslist and other methods too to avoid costs especially on larger ticket items. Always did. I sold a backhoe using ebay to a fellow in upstate NY. Transaction went very smooth. That was an exception. I usually like to sell cars and things of that nature locally without a service. Even with the fees I still made good money. Getting your product out to the world is a huge advantage.

Now if you are all just talking helicopter parts, I see the point. Ebay isn't worth the hassle sometimes unless you don't get any interest on these sites.

I love Paypal! Sure I wish it was free.

Last July I bought a oldy but goody garden tractor at a local auction for $466. $40 was the 10% buyers fee and the $26 was state tax.

I sold it on ebay for $1780 and the buyer drove hundreds of miles to personally pick it up.

The ebay fee was $36 and change. He paid me cash when he picked it up.

My labor consisted of bringing the tractor home (1 mile), taking photographs and listing the tractor.

My question is... should I not buy from the local auction because of the $66 in fees and taxes and should I not use ebay because of the $36 fee?

Of course you can just increase the price of the item to cover said fees, but ultimately they are still gathering huge fees.

One of the things that I see quite often are small items that are sold for $.01, then they charge $10 for shipping. Fees are not applied to shipping charges. They are on the lookout for these ads tho, so you can't sell a heli for $.01 and $600 shipping

If you add the eBay fees with the PayPal fees, it gets downright expensive. For an alternative, check out craigslist - no "seller protection", but just think of it as an online classified ad site. It's a bit tricky to navigate, but the price is right

Methinks the examples are from their fee tables in the first post of this thread. I just checked ebay myself, and they are current.

From PayPal:
"2.9% plus $0.30 USD of the amount you receive. For example, if you are sent $100.00 USD by credit card, the fee would be $3.20 USD ($2.90 + $0.30). "

While PayPal isn't expensive on its own, it gets pricy when added to ebay fees...

They offer buyers protection where RR and Craiglist offers nothing.
Buyer protection, also known as bend-over-the-seller. The feedback system is horribly broken. Business i work for sells surplus equipment on ebay, and damn if people ever bother to read the description.

Nearly every week now we are getting complaints from someone who bought some used equipment from us, and when the got the equipment they discovered that it was used. No one reads the listings anymore, eBay is so busy trying to be Wal-Mart that they've convinced half their buyers that everything sold on eBay is NIB or must be in like-new condition.

so, what does the buyer do? leave negative feedback and open an ebay and paypal claim. What does ebay do? give them their money back. eBay is the safest place in the world for buyers, you get your item, complain to ebay that it is not NIB, and then you get your money back too!

Buyer protection? Have you as a buyer ever tried to use the Ebay/Paypal buyer protection plan? Good luck there.

Here is an example I was a part of: A guy made a half-dozen good sales on Ebay to get his rating up. Then one day he listed about 2000 college textbooks for an average of $100 each. Hundreds of people payed for the "buy it now" on the textbooks. A couple of weeks later, nobody had received their textbooks in the mail so they started complaining to Ebay. I was one of them. Problem is, the guy who listed all of these books had closed his Ebay account 2 days after he had made the fraudulent listings and had withdrawn his money from his Paypal account. Going through the Ebay/Paypal system to get reimbursed they say, "We're sorry, but the account holder doesn't have any money in their account to reimburse you with". What kind of protection is that?

Wow, the fees have gone up even more!

I stopped selling on ebay at least a year ago when they raised the fees to 8%. Now I just buy stuff from ebay and use the bing cashback to save a good bit of money vs buying it from other places.

I also bought a BC8DX from a dealer on ebay. Guy gave me the runaround for a month. I opened a case, and ebay sent me my money back. They definitely offer good buyer protection IMO.
