What is best Dremel attachment for getting flat on motor shaft.
After reading an article in the RC Heli mag about making a flat on your motor shaft for the grub screw, I noticed that sure enough, my stupid motor shaft doesn't have one.

So what is the best attachment and method of getting a nice, smooth flat in the motor shaft?

Thanks

You really don't need to get the dremel out. A few short strokes from a good file will do the job. But one of the small grinding wheels will also do a lovely job. Be sure to tape the motor well in a plastic bag first which ever method.

Yep, one of the grinding wheels works perfect for this, and it only takes a second to get the flat done. Definitely follow Duke's advice on the bag

Dremel....
You kidding me...a file

the shafts are pretty hard...get a round barrel sanding attachemnt for the dremel and you can have a nice flat in 2 seconds...this is what I use..

If it's a hardened shaft (Neu motors) good luck with a file.

I still prefer a dremel with the normal shafts b/c it is so much easier and quicker. I've used the cutting wheel to make mine.

Which one is the grinding bit?

The small one shaped like a cone?

I just use the thicker cutting wheel to dremel a flat spot, very easy.

Just take your time and make sure to do it even and straight.

Works great!

I use a 1/8" carbide cutter to grind flats in flybar rods. Lay it against the shaft sideways. Doesn't have to be perfect.Wolves don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep
