Hi kogibankole

those two blocks will be machined to become the crankcase

i have bought cylinders , pistons and cranks for the Zenoah G20 , you can see the cranks in the first few photos , so i am using stock Zenoah parts and making a custom crankcase , look in my gallery to see a similar project i did earlier , regards

Hi
the first engine was pretty much about getting my feet wet for this project , i find that no matter how much thought i put into something , there is still a lot to be learned by doing , and this project is no different , i was very curious to see how hard it would be to join the cranks correctly , and how hard it would be to machine the case from a billet , all in all the project is a lot of fun , and i have learned a lot also , regards

here is a link to the first engine

Hi
i have started working on the crankcase , here the case is mounted to the four jaw chuck and center drilled

i am cutting sacrificial flanges on each end that i will use to mount the case halves for internal boring , here you can see the first flange being machined

Hi
here you can see i have finished both of the sacrificial flanges , and separated the case halves , i then have the front half in the 3 jaw and i am boring out the inside of the case

once the interior of the cases are bored out i can use the interior bore to hold the case halves with the 3 jaw , and this will let me cut away the sacrificial flanges and machine the exterior of the cases

.

If i were you i would get a piece of gasket paper and put between the two blocks and do you side bored holes or else it's going to catch air.
Just a tip. Keep the pics coming?

Thanks
Ivan

Hi Peter
i thought you would get a kick out of the photos , once the inside of the case is done , i can start shaping the outside , and it will start losing weight fast , the block started at 3 lbs , and i am guessing it will lose over 2.5 lbs in chips

Your doing a great job i hope it runs good and smooth for you. Did you ever decide what heli you where going to put it in? What ever it goes in it needs 800mm blades for the extra weight. Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming i love to see someone build something from nothing it really shows the thought and craftsman ship of some people.

Keep us posted
Thanks
