I hate to say this, but I don't have alot of faith in the Align 3g. I won't say who, but someone with Align who flies their brand won't fly the 3g b/c it's not a good flying unit when it works proper, and that's iffy at best due to QC issues.

I would stick with a major brand like V-bar, Skookum 720 I hear raves about, and I am interested in the Total-G(but would have to give it time before buying).

ady,
Using a stronger bec isnt moding anything. The thing is power hungry feed it. Some of the mods I've seen dont require you to do anything you cant undo. To the General Align bashers lets not forget this is V1 of a brand new product. I'm sure they will continue to improve it and the compation will bring prices down across the board.

Hey Ady,

Sorry about your loss, I heard from the shop. I too suspected a power problem and really 8A is pretty tight to what you may get when bashing those controls. I run 15 - 20a capable setups with no issues. I can't really comment on the 3G but early on with the New Black V-bar when it was released I had the same happen if you remember and totaled a new 700N. On talking with manufactures and others my setup (power delivery) was changed.

ea01bg , modifying the 3G to suit the 20A required , is modifying in my books , but don`t wanna start ww3 on here , maybe there should be a warning put on the instructions about the current that can be drawn and the type on req thats needed

At 6v output, this regulator should be capable of the 8A continous current draw with even high peaks, assuming that there is ample cooling.

At lower output like 5v w/o proper cooling, this regulator is probably only good for 4A because I had one went into thermal with a continuous average of 4+A @5v on a 30+degree c day. Upon the onset of thermal, the regulator will start to drop its voltage and eventually shutdown. So you should feel a few seconds of slow respond before total lost of control...at least that is what mine did.

At 6v with the same load, it does not even heat up much.
