On many films I've seen the comments by the critics are more than dubious. For the most, what planet are they on
Seems to me the critic quotes are mere fabrication.

typically, I go see the ones they hate and avoid the ones they love. It almost NEVER does me wrong. Only time I stray is when I rent and 90% of the time, I just sit there and shake my head when the credits roll.

Am I the only person that thought it was enjoyable?

Like really...do we have to pretend that all movies on the subject of war are attempting to simulate reality? Or have we forgotten that cinema is an art form like writing and photography.

I thought the plot was interesting, the characters engaging, and the visuals gripping.

Yes I think Saving Private Ryan is a better movie, and Blackhawk down is more action packed, but The Hurt Locker was a very solid movie.

Full Metal Jacket is a great movie. I have no idea how accurate it is, I was never in the military. It sure is entertaining, though. I love how R Lee Ermey was cast in that movie.
Ermey played a series of minor film roles until 1987, when he was cast as tough drill instructor Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket; Ermey also served as the technical advisor on the film. Initially, he was only intended to be the technical advisor, but Kubrick changed his mind after Ermey put together an instructional tape to convince Kubrick he was the right person for the role, in which Ermey went on an extended hair-raising drill instructor tirade towards several Royal Marines cast as extras, all the while being pelted by oranges and tennis balls, and managing to do so without repeating himself, stopping, or even flinching.
I rented Hurt Locker, and I wasn't impressed. There were good scenes, but for the most part, I'm glad it was a $1 rental at Red Box. Not something I'd ever sit through again.

Realism in War films
I think that films like the Hurt locker should give an accurate portrayal of what it is like in a conflict situation out of respect for the people that serve and open civilians eyes to what war is about,as much as you can on film anyway.Might make people think a bit more when troops are committed to the hell that is war.

I agree that it's important to respect our armed forces, but an artist has the right to do whatever they want however they want.

I'm not saying it's a perfect movie though. Full Metal Jacket is my favorite wartime movie.
