straightening phasing pins on SG
hey all
sadly my SG took a little trip to terrafirma on the weekend and the phasing pins on the head block got slightly bent, 5 to 10 degrees at most. would i be able to straighten them back out without snapping them or is it just best to replace the whole head block?

really impressed how well it held up given it hit very hard on its nose, happily frames are all ok, battery tray took all the impact, boom got bent but TT is arrow straight!
other than the and top mainshaft bearing block its just a few parts in the head that need replacing and it will be back up

If their only very slightly bent then heck yes I would have tried bending them back straight. Just check after that the washout is still moving nice and freely up and down and of course do what you can to make sure nothing's cracked anywhere on the head.

@ gotnoclue: me neither lol but, maybe if you heat them first with a heat gun, it will be easier to bend them back? Just a thought.

I would heat the aluminum hub and remove the pins first.
If you break one outside the hub while trying to straighten
it out it's no big deal just replace with a new pin. If
you break the pin while trying to straighten it while in
the hub, it's time for a new hub. It's a shame that JR
part prices are so crazy expensive!
That is why you see
so many people flying ALIGN T Rex 700's helicopters.
JR/Horizon's business model is just wrong, does it
make sense to sell only one helicopter a day and make
a $100.00 profit or does it make more sense to sell
1000 helicopters a day and make a $1.00 profit on
each?

Good Luck,

Bob

Bob? Sorry to single you out but you're unfortunately now a prime example why you don't see 98% of the JR flyers on this subforum, every second or third threads gets dragged off topic by some Align fanboy spewing a load of bull...It's not on. Stop this nonsense please. We've already discussed and established good reason to everything you brought up, ages ago.
thanks

gotnoclue: Yea, unfortunately the problem with any metal, hardened ones even worse and let's not even begin talking about aluminium. You won't know untill you try it if the metal bent far enough the first time to stress it, you may be lucky and it didn't and the pins will bend right back no issue. Then of course there's the problem of some parts getting a hardened coating like the mainshafts which present a whole new heap of interesting problems re bending them, yet even those can be straightened if the original damage weren't too severe.

Spacey,

I am not an ALIGN FanBoy

I own two JR Vibe 50's
One Hirobo EVO 90
One Align T Rex 500 only because my Hirobo Lepton was a big POS.
Do I like my Align T REX 500 Yes, would I buy another Align product
No

So please know the facts before you call someone an ALIGN FanBoy.
We've already discussed and established good reason to everything you brought up, ages ago.
I must have missed this? please show me good reasons why
JR Vibe 50 Main frames went from $46.99 @ Readyheli to $99.00 @ RH
Why did a Vibe 50 Swashplate go from $35.99 @ RH to $105.99 @ RH
Why did a Vibe 50 fueltank go from $10.99 to $23.99 @ RH
Why did a Vibe 50 Landing gear set go from $10.99 to $24.99 @ RH
Why did a set of Vibe 50 flybar paddels go from $9.99 to $23.99
WHY????????????????????????????????????????

Why?
Was it inflation? No that kind of increase is not inflation
Was it currency exchange rates No

You are pointing me to knowing the facts after what you posted first? LMAO..apologies again but that is funny.

Bob? Sorry if I didn't make it clear enough that I'm not pinning the fanboy label on you in particular, I guess I am guilty on that. My apologies regarding that, however I stand by what I intended with my posting.

getting back on topic here,
can the pins be removed from the head block and are their spares for them?
i thought that it was 1 piece with no spare individual parts.

as far as pricing goes yes it is alot more than a 700 for parts but a 700 does not fly anywhere near as good as this heli, neither does my aurora but thats my personal opinion, so id rather pay a little more and enjoy the quality that you get with this machine.
however having said that i do agree that it is a bit overpriced.

I actually had the same issue a few months ago when I crashed my SG and had to replace the head block. The pins are not sold separately by JR. You might be able to find similar size pins and cut them to size elsewhere...

I honestly haven't seen them available seperately but if I were you, I would quickly pop an email to Horizon to double check? Explain to them your situation, they should be able to help. If that fails, you could very well measure them and just look for a pin that size. It's not enchanted or anything (We hope :P ) so any hardened pin should be able to replace it. You'll probably find all the JR washout assemblies like the Venture and Sylphide .90's that you can buy loose has the same diameter pin, just dunno about the length but if you give me time I can check on my helis?

Now as far as removing and putting new ones in goes? From my side, you're on your own I'm afraid. Never tried it myself.

Edit: G posted probably same time as me. Hehe
