Vario Dauphin Build
Just after Christmas this year I began my first scale project. I've flown quite a collection of pod & boom helis in the last few years, and felt left out last year at some scale and warbird events, so I decided to take the plunge and build one of my own.

I haven't done much documentation of the build, but thought I would share a couple pictures of the progress. I find its taking longer and costing more than I expected, but I guess everyone here knows that already.

I decided to go with an electric setup to keep things clean. You get a good perspective of the size here... The heli is sitting on the 3hp cabinet saw.

Here you can see the other side. Since it will be in Coast Guard colors, the aft door on this side is filled. Note the top cowls are just resting in place.

I recently bonded the boom in place, but the inner boom is still floating. I'll be shimming the fenestron in place, and permenantly fixing it this week.

The current plan is to maiden in April after my Skookum 720 arrives, then disassemble and add the detail.

Patty,
I've got the tail all bonded in place, and I think i'm ready for a test flight as soon as my Skookum 720 shows up. I've been waiting a while, and may have to select another unit if it doesn't come in soon.

The build has been slow lately... i'll need to order some finishing parts so i can mke an appearance at the local scale fun fly this year.

How about you - is yours flying again?

lookin good. i too have been fooling around with a vario dauphin build for quite some time.its been on and of the back burner many times. it has a predator 90 in it and custom made landing gear. looks like i will be doing the coast guard scheme as well(dont really want to, as everyone has already done it) for lack of other subjects.
making a gear reduction unit for a predator was quite challenging but it works now.
keep us posted on your build. it is already inspiring me to continue soon.

The Brazilian Army operates the Dauphin as well. I have worked around them for a while, mostly they are the civilian helicopter with a military camo paint scheme and the large nose radome. They mount up internal aux tanks and MG's on the doors for different missions as required. I don't have too many pictures of them for a scale documentation sheet, but the Brazilian Army has a website with lots of pictures. I'll try to find the link if interested.Full-size Copter Doctor

Flint,
I'm more like a few steps behind... I got delayed a bit with busy family activities. I've got everything to complete my build but time.
