Phoenix 35 problems
I had my trex 450 flying pretty good, but i bought a phoenix link here on RR and i wanted to see what it is all about.Well that didnt go very good because all i get is errors with this POS windows 7.I gave up on the Phoenix link and figured i would just use the manual settings, but now all i get is a SOLID red light on the esc when i plug it in.I checked my radio settings and travel adjust is at 100% sub trim is o.I have tried to enter program mode and get nowhere, just a solid red light on the esc.I'm about to give up on computers and electronics and go back to pencil and paper and wiper type speed controls.I would really appreciate some help before i toss this across the room.

Did the CastleLink software you downloaded from their website install successfully? If not, download it again and this time save it somewhere, like your desktop. Once the download is completed, right click it and then click "Install as administrator". That is what works with Vista and I suspect it may also be required with Windows 7.
Give it a try.

You will need to start the computer in safe mode. Turn off your computer, and on the boot up screen, hold F8 and choose "disable driver signature".

OK. It is installed. Now, launch the software. Then plug in the CastleLink device. Then plug the esc into the Castlelink. What happens? It may ask you if you want to install the latest firmware. If so, I would click yes and let it do that. What happens next?Dr.Don

OK. What do you have them set to? For most usage in a 450 I would set the current limit to "insensitive" and the PWM to 8khz. Don't forget that after you have chosen all the different settings you need to send them to the esc via the update settings button (I think it is on the lower right).Dr.Don

throttle - heli - fixed -response med - spool med & med
brake - 0
cutoff -auto lipo - insensitive - soft - 3.0 volts
Motor start power med, timing norm, direction forward, pwm rate outrunner
I was under the impression the 430xl was inrunner/outrunner when it comes to setup like this

I'm gonna try the 8khz and see whats up.

There are several of us here who use CC esc's and like them, but we have not had good results using "Outrunner Mode" on small motors such as used in the 450. Setting Pwm to 8khz has worked much better.

There is one other thing you need to do, and it is important. You need to calibrate the throttle so the esc understands where your low stick and high stick are. Not doing this can result in the esc failing to arm (solid red led). The procedure for doing this is below. We got it some time ago from someone at CC:

From a CC rep:

****BEFORE ADJUSTING DISENGAUGE PINION FROM MAIN GEAR****
I use set RPM mode

I first go in and I calibrate my throttle, I set my normal to 0-50-100.

I bring my end points in to the center and I go to full throttle on the TX and I plug in my battery to the ESC. After the initial beeps I move the High endpoint value up until the ESC beeps again and I add 2 points. I then bring the throttle down and I expand the low endpoint setting until the controller beeps and arms. Calibration is finish...unplug ESC. Reset thottle curve as desired.

Every time i send settings to device i get an error
"error communicating with device, did not receive a response from controller, try unplugging usb and plug back in ".
I get this no matter what settings i use.I have tried all of the option in the pwm rate.

BEC is internal

I would try the calibration you suggested, but i cant even get a beep out of my esc.
This esc was working fine until i fked with it.I thought maybe there were a few settings i could use with the link that i couldnt get with manual setup.

Also, make sure you have the correct polarity where you plugged the esc into the CastleLink. If your CastleLink has 3 pins instead of a pigtail wire with connector, the pin marked negative (-) goes to the brown wire of the esc.Dr.Don

There are many advantages to the CastleLink over manual programming, and it normally works like a charm. We just need to get your esc talking to the link.Dr.Don

Well i tried everything suggested here and then any possible combination of things i could think of and i still got errors.I decided to call CC and finally got thru to tech support. He guided me thru all the things discussed here, and then some.He came to the conclusion that there is a problem with the processor and i will get it updated or replaced at no expense.

Thanks for all your help, especially 2atlo8

Glad it worked out for you. I was down to concluding that either the esc or the CastleLink were defective.Dr.Don
