Trex 500 CF w/GY520
Anyone know if you need to use a step down voltage reg when using this gyro on the Trex 500 stock setup? I was looking at the specs on the Gyro and the operating voltage range is from 3.8 vdc to 6.0vdc. If my memory serves me, I believe the ESC that comes with this kit is adjustable and is defaulted at 5.5vdc. Some correct me if I am in error. Well I just looked at the specs on the servo and looks like the operating range for it is 4.8vdc. So do I need the step down between the servo and gyro?

hey, do you not disengage the center wire(red one) from the esc and install a seperate bec for power to the receiver and servos? if im not wrong the built in bec will damage your electronics if using 6s?2 chronicles 7-14 "We the People"

I was just thinking. I been flying my thunder tiger mini titan for the last couple years and I do-not have a step-down on it and I haven't experienced any problems so far. I am using the Heli-Max 45amp ESC on it. Guess I always thought the ESC did the stepping down of the voltage. Guess I need to re-think my thinking on this. I don't want any mid-air crisis, like the Tail servo deciding to go south! I believe I will have to take a voltage measurement and see just what voltage I have. Anyone know?

I thought that was already built into the align ESC that came with the kit! Am I wrong here? Anyone who knows speak now or for ever hold your peace. I don't want my Trex spiraling to the ground on it's maiden flight.

lol hey you can use up to 3s on the stock bec that came with the esc on a 450, but anything above that will need a seperate bec to work properly, if not it will burn up some electronics 2 chronicles 7-14 "We the People"

on my trex 500 i have this set up

scorpion 1600 motor
cc 80amp esc
cc 10 bec
jr3517 servos
spartan quark gyro
futaba 9257 tail servo

6s batteries with no problem

but you must remove the red wire from the plug, just fold it back and put some shrink wrap on it and it will be fine.

(Built-in 5-6V step-less adjustable BEC
This is the ESC that comes with the TREX 500 combo. It says adjustable BEC. So do I still neeed additional BEC? And if I remember correctly it is factory set at 5.5vdc. That's not going to burn up anything. The Manual doesn't show the separate BEC either. Maybe you need it if you are using a different ESC that doesn't already have the BEC built in. Anyone somebody using the stock setup care to comment on this?

I have been running my stock Trex 500 esc with no regulator or bec and running a 6s setup for over a year now with no problems. I am using a gy401 with a full size tail servo but like i said no problems here and it is solid as a rock. U do not need a bec for the stock Align esc. I also don't think you will need a voltage reg on your gyro, I am not running one on mine. Prob got 50+ flights in on mine.

If you are realy worried about it you could adjust the voltage down to 5.2 volts and i know you would not have a issue with that.
Of course I ment to do that...........
