2801 gyro settings?
I am using my 2801 pro for my T-Rex 450. It is a new setup and I was trying to get the tail setup properly. I am finding that I can not turn off the HH mode on my G401. So I am not able to setup the tail properly?

The gyro settings only consist of a sensitivity setting that when set to 0% still makes the light on the gyro stay solid (HH mode) and if set to 100% same thing.

I get no drift with any setting and the only difference is I get tail kick out on thro punches with lower settings.

I am trying to chase a tail wag and would like to be able to set up the tail in a "rate" type mode before going HH.

Should I bypass the gyro and just plug the tail servo in to the rudder position on the TX? Rudder servo is a digital servo, don't think that will matter. The gyro is set on digital and if I switch it off digital the tail wag gets worse.

I think the tail wag is a balancing issue but would still like to setup the tail right. Is there some other way?

Hi
on the 2801 go into GYROSENS , and set the screen to read as shown below , you want to startup with AUX2 in position 0 so the 401 will initialize in HH , then switching AUX2 to position 1 should have you in RATE , HTH

MDSET
GYRHLD
GYROSENS

GYRO/AUX2
0: 65%
1: 15%

PS: these are just starting points

Just noticed you can set it to INH. Would that disable the gyro?If I say duck, I'm not talking about a bird that quacks!

When I used my Futaba RX and TX I could go to rate mode and the gyro tight would flash and not go solid. As I understand it, if the light on the futaba GY401 is solid that means HH mode. If that is correct than no setting from 0-100 will get it out of HH mode as the light is solid all the time no matter what figure it is set at. It also acts that way as well as I know the tail is not setup properly but does not drift as is should in RATE mode. I have read that with the 2801 if the gyro setting is below 50 it is rate and above 50 is HH but it does not seem reflect this on my 450 size heli with a GY401 gyro. I also have a 4G6 but have not issues with that setup. If I say duck, I'm not talking about a bird that quacks!

Hi
is your gain plug in the correct channel , you can verify that you are using the Aux2 channel by swapping out a standard servo for the gain plug , and seeing if it moves when you flip the AUX2 switch

i know once the 401 initializes it will switch to RATE if the channel setting is 50 or less , it sounds like the gain plug might be in the wrong slot , HTH

also , what RX are you using , i have seen some of the Walkera RXs act pretty strange

copperclad, that was the issue. I found the gain plug was plugged into the gear switch (as it was on my futaba). Complete operator error. I feel like a moron. I spent 2 days trying to figure this out. I actually did not notice your post until I had crash landed the heli (power failure possibly deans plugs related?) and was replacing a broken servo and was thinking the same thing about the gain plug being in the wrong spot. I flipped the gear switch and the gyro light shut off. I was running 100% gain all the time no matter what I did. No wonder I had tail wag. Lesson learned. All is working great now. Thank you for helping me out.If I say duck, I'm not talking about a bird that quacks!
