Interesting that the Loony left has all sorts of lobbying groups to limit or deny the ownership of guns, but to have one that lobby's for the 2nd amendment is attacked with all sorts of whinny made up allegations.
The NRA as a gun rights lobbying group is a good thing

The funny thing about carrying concealed is its not what you expect until you do it. In general its a pain in the rear. I mean its heavy, drags your pants off and generally pokes you in the wrong way. Not to mention the expense of purchasing the gear and taking the time to practice. You have to be more conscious of what you are doing and more level headed. Obviously its one thing to get pissed off while in traffic, its another to do it when you are carrying. You can't, you always have to be willing to deescalate the situation whenever possible. Its not the Wild West. The very small number of actual shootings proves this is the case.

However, its a tool, like insurance. The world is absolutely full of nutjobs; armed and unarmed. The thought of calling the cops if you find yourself face to face with one is a joke. Its like saying you don't carry car insurance because if you ever get near to getting into a wreck you will just call the cops.

Speaking of cops, I find it interesting people are catching grief while legally carrying if stopped. By in large most of the stories out of Texas are very positive. The cops look at it like you have already had a good background check and are a tiny fraction as likely to commit a crime as someone without a CHL. They tend to relax a bit; many reports of the cops even letting them out of a ticket because of a CHL. YMMV.

Hmmm, we should have a "show me what you carry" thread, but it would probably scare the Yankees and Canadians.

I am a 1911 guy but I was looking for a plastic fantastic so I picked up a Ruger SR-9 a while back. I have to say I have been pretty happy with it. Not as accurate as some other stuff I have, but better than most polymer pistols I have shot. The grip and controls are much nicer than some of the other tupperware out there.I give up on Loctite, nothing lasts long enough to vibrate loose anymore.

I have fondled one at the fun show. It feels a bit nose heavy like most compact pistols, but overall has a nice feel to it. Internally it has quite a few changes over the full size one, supposedly required to make it as reliable as they wanted. Hopefully its like the full sized one, very reliable.I give up on Loctite, nothing lasts long enough to vibrate loose anymore.

OK I'll admit it. I broke the law. When I was 15 I went on a bike trip up north. I had a single shot 22 rifle that i took the stock off of and brought with. When I reached lake Mille Lacs I started to wash up on the shore. A guy in his twenties came up to me and wanted to know all about where I came from and where I was going. I gave him all kinds of misinformation and he left. I started on my ride again and in about a hour the sun was low in the sky. I went off the road and into the woods to camp for the night. Just as it was getting dark I heard a car stop on the road. I thought this was strange because it was the middle of no where and it stopped right where I was. I heard two car doors shut and footsteps coming my way. I then opened my tent flap and fired a round into the ground. I then heard running and doors slamming and a car peeling out. What would have happened if I didn't have a gun? I don't know. But I do know what happened because I had one,Nothing.Champion,Magic,MiniBoy,Xcell60+50,Intrepid,Intrepid Gas,Baron30,Whisper,300X,mCPXv1v2,Concept,Nexus

who don't really see gun ownership being the hinge on which freedom swings.
history has proven the point over and over again that gun ownership by a country's citizens is what truly prevents the governments from running amok. Why else would every tyrannical government try to disarm the citizens before opressing them?
