My motor got dropped by the mailman. Be careful shipping a motor using the "big" bubble wrap. It does not do very good no sharp edges. The accident busted the red coil on the back. So I sent it back to Wally to have him check it out. I figured if the coil was broken, something might be bent. I expect it back in a few days.

How the heck did your clutch get so hot that it turned blue like that? What kind of gap did you have between the clutch leaves and the liner when you first started with it? Between my clutch leaves and the liner I have about 0.5mm. I assume this is correct?

I'm going to do a parts count on my Spectra one of these days when I get some time. I think there are at least 1000 parts if you include all of the washers and screws. This thing is nearly as complex as the Space Shuttle.

Heck I don't know.. 2yrs ago I just built the thing without checking the gap..assumed it ought to be factory correct (naive).. but then I assumed the same with the tail box and the gears wore in no time in there...

It was obviously going south rapidly these last few days,,why I asked re clutch grab RPM .. but it does appear that i had no end of different things ahpening at the same time or dominoing together.. dud tail servo, sloppy tail hub or outbut shaft, loos push rod guide and even a flicker or two on the throttle servo.. anf with 2 servos suspicious its amde me wonder if the slipping clutch could have made static. One thing is the bell never got warm.. I did check that a few times.. so it must thave gone from grabbing to totally loose quite quick OR the liner is a darned good insulator.

I've just cleaned up the piston crown. Man that carbon was going diamond in there.. so hard... but it looks sweet now its all been rinsed and washed with carb cleaner after scraping it nice. The ring was loose in groove and the sides were unmarked.. just got to pout it back together now..

2 dud servos repaired by futaba service. Still waiitng on the clutch repair to be returned and my head gaskets...so it's been a month on the bench in bits..
..also shows how difficult diagnostics can be when 3+ things go wrong at once...

Sorry to hear your Spectra's grounded, so far I appear to have put all those problems behind me with the Helibug. Three pulls on the starter and go fly, and if I need parts they're 2 mins walk away at my LHS. I'll grant you it doesn't fly as nicely as the MA when it was on song but it's spending more time in the air than on the bench which makes up for that.
I hope you get it sorted out soon, I'm still waiting to see if the TSA gasser ever comes to the market as I like the look of that or the Realheli MX-9.

Mines out again tomorrow with some richer needle settings to try.

Lets get some gasser flying done.

I think the volcanic dust could be to blame for some of the delay but it seems rather a long time and I would be starting to think it’s gone astray

Information for you
Hey Peter:

I called Minair for you to find out as its a local call for me.

Spoke to Jeff Miller and he says: He sent that clutch back out a long time ago. No repair part sits on his desk for more than a couple of days. He needs your address so he can go down to heli wholesaler and track the the shipment to find out what happened to it. If for some reason its not found, he has no problems sending you out another clutch. Please send him your information as he's got some procedures he needs to follow and he will take care of you from there.

My best guess Peter is that the package got hung up in customs in England. Remember once how I sent you a package and it got delayed for what, like 2 to 3 months? I sent you another package and then after that the first one arrived? Maybe the same thing happened.

As far as delays, you probably remember my rear mount zimmerman muffler fiasco for the Spectra. I sent it back to Zimmerman so they can measure it and make some more of them for all you guys who wanted it back at the time, and, that muffler took 80 days (I counted!) from the time I shipped it until it came back to me from zimmerman. I called it the "around the world in 80 days" back then...!

Information for you

Hey Peter:

There's some confusion here, Raja. Thanks for the efforts though.

It was never sent to MInAir by me. As I reported here before - I called the local dealership who said they could fix it and had parts on order due imminently to do so. I sent it to them and later they told me there was a cock-up with the MinAir delivery and it was resent. Last time i rang, my assembly was still in Dave's desk pending parts arrival. MinAir also PM'd me to find out if they could help.

It's not a direct MinAir fault. (Unless they have failed to send the repeat order out to Rotors and Motors.) It's a fault of poor parts stocks locally and parts shipment delays.

HOWEVER If I was a company trading globally and trying to keep my goodwill then I'd be requesting stock level info from my independant dealers on a regular basis and making sure they were providing the service to my end users. I'd expect them to keep a satisfactory parts inventory and offer wholesale parts on a sale or return basis.

The guys at Rotors and Motors really know their stuff..if you can actually get through on the phone. But they have been out of stock of parts before that I've ended up ordering from Ron Lund instead.

I called R&M again today... this time the story is that the parts are in the hands of FedEx and due for delivery tuesday!
Someone hss to have been telling porkies..no way does it take 10 weeks to sort out a delivery error

If nothing midweek then I want my parts back and order direct US myself.. I really don't care how long it takes now but this is getting silly.

I'm very in the mood to fix it, sell it and let someone else suck on a lemon whatever the loss.....ggrrr..
