Opinions very welcome... is there a gyro availale that is better than a 401 for same or less money and more or less with the same simplicity? Just curious and wanted to try something different for next one I need.

Curtis Youngblood Mini-G is pretty awesome and works well for me in my 700. I had a second one in my 500 until I sold it for a Vbar.

I'd look at a nib align gp750 in the classifieds. They come up a lot because ppl go flybarless outright or like a particular gyro.

Spartan or GY520. I'm looking at changing my 401 out for a 520 here in the near future. Can be had for $139 NIB.

If you are on a tight budget the Align GP750 is a great deal, you can prolly find one here NIB, in the classifieds for around $70 or less. If you have a little more to spend I agree with misfits0311, I have a Curtis MiniG and its a ass kickn gyro!!! I own 4 different gyros and the MiniG is the best I have....
I found mine used in new condition from a guy that went FBLs and didn't need it any longer. I think I paid $125 shipped and its my favorite and best gyro. I was getting ready to purchase another to replace the GP750 on my 450Pro, but after flying it the most out of all my helis, I liked it and decided to wait to convert my 500 into FBLs and move the gyros around on my helis. No need in purchasing another to have it sit in a few months. With the new trend being FBLs setups I would keep an eye in the classifieds and pick one up here. The Align GP750 is also a piece of cake to setup!!

I really like the Futaba GY520. Great gyro, very small and reasonable

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

Inertia 860. Runs with the best of them, dirt simple to setup.

Spartan's the best, but for cheap results, the GP750 is quite adequate--definitely better than the 401 and easier to setup. Used G750's are going for about $70-80 on the forums.

Spartan DS760 all the way, only thing better is the Mikado V-Bar! I am amazed at how consistent it piros.

DS8900G servo will work great with the Spartan DS760, there is a preset for it.

Sorry, kinda forgot about the new Quark, both are great gyros and perform about the same.

Go with either . The Quark is smaller.

I have 10 GY520's in service, along with two 611's, a Spartan, and one 401.

The 520 works as well as the 611, but without the separate module. The Spartan works just as well, but was not (for me) quite as easy to set up.

I have not tried the Curtis Youngblood gyro yet, but he does not make anything that is not excellent.

His ATG governors are excellent (I have four of those in service, at this time).

I can get the gy520 at my lhs will it work with the 8900 servo and is it as programable or as good as the spartan or at least pretty close? Also is it worth the buying the usb hookup.
