I'm looking for a good crasher heli. Something to be the gateway between the sim and my good helis that cost minimum of $100 to put in.
I'm looking at either Trex 250's or Trex 450's. The last 450 I had was a trex 450seV2 a couple years back, and it seemed to be around $25 to crash. Is the 250 cheaper, and can it handle crashes better?
Whats a good crasher heli in your opinion?

450 v2. Cheap lots of parts. Way more stable than a 250.

Don't go with the 450 pro. Parts are not as available.

Embrace failure because without it success would be normal.

Just thrash the 450 around! I'm sure the 250 crashes "better" but I wouldn't recommend it unless you like dealing with some TINY parts. If a set screw strips... yeah have fun getting that out!

I have well over 40 crashes with my Trex 450V2 and a few hundred tip-overs. It has been a pretty tough heli although I think the new Pro holds up even better. They are both awesome "crasher" helis!!

I would think that if you are only going to spend around $100, why not look at the EXI line of 450s. They are reasonable inexpensive and are compatible to the Trex 450 line.

Yep,EXI standard Edition. You really will find it hard to get a closer heli to the Align 450v2 than it and the price is great. $45
http://www.xheli.com/exi-450-arf-rc-helicopter.html

Add the metal head and tail $39
http://www.xheli.com/exicncmerohe.html
Mine has the Blue head/tail
http://www.xheli.com/blray450coup.html

Some decent but not expensive electronics from the RunRyder classifieds .
Align motor and ESC $40
Servos $60-80 , 401 gyro $65 . Zippy lipos $23

Add a case to put everything $35
http://www.xheli.com/aluminum-case.html
Buy a 2nd or 3rd complete kit at $45 a pop just for spares , and your good to go

I've had mine for over a year and it's got so much of this and that on it that it is pointless to even call it a one brand heli anymore. It flies great though ..

i would find a cheap 600n belt drive. very cheap to fix, almost evertime when i crash the spend, main, tail and spendle shafts hold. my last crash was blades, boom, landing gear, and it was a pretty hard one. i fly 3d pro blades and have no troubles with them.

you aint crashin you aint learnin

Actually, that's two words - even if you smoosh them together.

I would say go with a true T-Rex 450. Don't bother with the knock offs. You get what you pay for and from my friends experience, you will never get them to fly right.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

+1 for the Trex 450 -this heli has worked for me. I got one used here on RR.

I'm also considering the MSH protos as an alternative only because I could see it better and the crash cost might be comparable.

Good luck with your choice.

I have three 450 clones and there are several more flying at my local club , they are all just fine .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

Unless you go with the cf version I would not recommend the Protos. The parts are cheap but it is a disaster to crash. I wish I had some hard numbers on probability of rekit in a basic crash but I don't. I would bet that it is quite high. My one and only crash was a rekit.
