hey
gurus, techies, and geeks alike...i've got a question

has anyone built or is using an unRAID server? i'm looking into building my own to replace an 8 drive firewire tower that i currently use to edit HD footage...

my biggest dilema at this point is if it will be fast enough to edit HD video with....many people on the forums say they stream HD footage...but that doesn't mean they edit HD footage...

read/write speeds i believe are said to be in the 22-45mb/s range (most being on the high end)...will this work?

more details here:http://www.lime-technology.com

here's the parts i'm looking to purchase to build one with:

i appreciate any help as this is for a non-profit that i edit for and the budget is non-existent...so i can't make a mistake in purchasing here...

Thanks

I have one of these for storing blu rays. Its fast enough to play them but not near as fast as my windows servers. I dont think it would be good for editing HD at all but mine is on older hardware. The good news is you can put together a 3 drive setup for free (if you have the hardware laying around) and try before you buy.
