I have a brand new swash plate from a new JR Vibe 50 kit
that has play (movement) up and down in the pivot ball.
The bearing feels good and no movement can be detected
between the lower and upper halves of the swashpalte
but the ball moves up and down with light finger pressure.

How much play in a swashplate is too much as this part
will only wear in use and become greater?
I estimate I have aprox .010" play in the pivot ball.

No replies in over 24 hours?

I guess no one knows or the answer is 0 play as the correct answer?

I sent this swashplate back to Horizon Hobbies and their Tech
said it was OK?
I wonder if he'll put it on his Vibe 50 heli and fly it?

Gohbee made a adjustable swashplate that had three screws that adjusted the play when it got sloppy with play so if the swashplate can have some play in it.

JR has the set screws for adjusting play in the bearing also.

The problem with my brand new JR swashplate is free play
movement up and down in the center pivot ball.

which hurts what exactly? unless the two plates are moving relative to each other, this will cause no slop in the control system. The ball is there to keep the plate centered on the shaft, as long as you dont have lateral play, nothing is amiss.

In a Pure verticle swash move this is true, but add an Ail, Elv,or Pitch & Elv
or Pitch & Ail control input and the verticle play in the center ball becomes lateral play or SLOP, not good in any heli.

put the heli together and see if the slop is still there. Once the control rods are on it, i'd wager it'll hold still just fine.

Yeah, I would recommend building the whole heli and see if there is still a bunch of slop. I didn't have any problems with my Vibe 50 swash but I don't remember if I noticed any slop in mine.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!
