Is there a program out there that can monitor your home network to see what is actively using bandwidth. I have a secure wireless router and with no one on thier computers (4 in the house) using the internet, my activity light is going crazy like something is downloading. I have gone through my router's DHCP table and the only computers listed are the ones on my network. I have also gone through the task manager and the only processes are your normal windows crap and antivirus programs. Just can't figure out what is using bandwidth when the computers aren't being used. Thanks.

Do you mean like this?

http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source...8ec2db39eb50b9d

I have a wireless and hear all this stuff running and I turn on task manager to just see what's happening and I see auto updates going. I run one PC on XP and one PC on Vista and a couple of laptops on XP and Vista.

Seems likes Vista is always updating.

Good luck...it's all a mystery to me.

I did a search on Google before I asked just to come up with the same thing you got. I looked through the results for a little while only to find nothing that would do exactly what I needed or ending up confused. That's why I posted here. I know there is a wide range of knowledge hear and thought somebody could give me a name of a program that could scan a network, and give results of what programs are using bandwidth on which computer. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the help. Just trying to save me some time after what I've already wasted.

Wireshark is what we use.

but honestly, it may well be too advanced. it's a full packet tracer.

I'm not a computer wiz but I will throw in my 2 cents. I have xp and dial up so I need my computer to only do the minimal as far as updating. I type msconfig into run, go to start up, and turn everything off. Then turn off automatic update. Try this with one computer and have all others off and see if your bandwith is still being used.
