Purchased an excellent condition MA1005 as my first Gasser... I have flown Nitros and always wanted a Gasser due to the convenience of not having all the other accessories to fly a nitro and the added Fuel economy of a Gasser too... But lately after reading abit here and there it seems as though setting up a Gasser is ALOT more Difficult than a Nitro... Can anyone help elaborate on Set-Up or at try and atleast simplify it for me before I decide to sell my Gasser... Thanks in advance and hope I can find the answers and help to motivate me to get this thing up in the AIR and enjoy all its capabilities...!!! P.S. I never did get the hang of setting up my nitros either so Set-Up is not my strongest point of this hobby... Roland / Ikaika808

1005
I think you need to get someone local to help you. Nice heli, but your washout linkage is rubbing your swash plate. NOT GOOD and dangerous.
You need to reset all your linkages, servo atvs, and probably alot of other stuff. Would take most of a day, maby more. Find a local club that has heli flyers. Get some help.

Just hang-on to it, and take your time. MA makes a great product. I'm new to gassers too so I can't offer much help, but I can say you will probably have some issues. Spend a lot of time on this forum searching past post regarding set-up on the engine and the 1005. The only thing that I can add is, when a problem does arise, try to discuss it on here with as much detail as possible, there are plenty of very knowledgeable people here that are willing to help. Congrats on your new bird, and good luck!

Phil , I have already addressed the Washout Linkage issue with the help from the Guys here at RR... The Newer different shape Swash Linkages was the answer to that situation... Thanks for the heads up though... I actually Noticed that problem when I gave the bird a good check over when I first recived it... Roland

Nice machine!
Looks new to me, like the frames and metal parts all seem to be not much used from that I can tell in the photos. Is that a different version of a zimmerman muffler on it? Haven't seen that one much.

You can take a look at my gallery with some photos of mine. It might help answer some of your questions or if you have any questions feel free to ask. Once you get that machine all setup nice it will fly and fly you just add gas and go at the field. There is a couple of little things to watch out for, other than that its a great bird. Mine I've had since 1997 and still flies the friendly skies today

Thanks Raja... Coming from you that means alot... I do have one question for you... I have discovered some delamination on one of my side frames near the top close to the head ( you can see it in the 2nd pictuire at the top... ) Some one has suggested that I use super glue to repair the delamination and I can also double up the frame there with a cut piece from and old frame... Would you agree with that or should I just replace the frame all together... I am also still looking for servos and all other electronics for the bird... What would you suggest I can use that wont make me Broke ??? I am not going to be 3Ding with it... Thanks Roland... Oh and I am considering your On-Board Generator... Do you still have them in stock with the MA Install kit too ???

Oh and as for the Muffler don't know what brand that is but I did happen to Purchase a Brand Spankin New Zimmerman Rear Mount and love the way it looks installed on there... I just hope that it doesn't fall apart like some of the earlier ones did at some weld spots...

Frames
Yes definately double up the frames with an old pair just cut out the center section and double it up. I also put an extra screw and nut in the front you can see my pictures in my gallery to explain.

CA the frames together and just CA the delaminated frame and it will be absolutely fine if you double it up, more than strong enough.

For the 1005 I've used 8311 servos in the past and they worked well for me. If you're a Futaba fan the 9252 servos would suffice as well.

And yes, I do have the MA install kit for the 1005 when you need it

Congrats on the find,,, Raja is correct, just glue the frames together where they are comming apart, and use frame stiffners, Also you might want to get the push pull for both the elevator,http://www.ronlund.com/Merchant2/me...uct_Code=MA0863
and collective,http://www.ronlund.com/Merchant2/me...ct_Code=MA0862,
Also you will want to get the front pinion mod to help keep from stripping the top of the main gear
,http://www.ronlund.com/Merchant2/me...uct_Code=MA0832
Any good 80 to 100oz. servo will work just fine, if your not going to do any hard 3D, The 1005 is a work horse, when setup correctly, you will do little maintance, gas and fly, Again Congrats.. XGM/VGM

What are you referring to as " more difficult to set up" ? Once you get a radio in the bird..Set up of curves would be similar to a nitro with the exception of the throttle curve being " Thicker" or staying on the power more... Don't read a bunch of stuff and NOT try that heli out.. So many people get on sites..and read a bunch of posts that mean absolutly nothing, posted by someone who's never even owed a gasser. Engine wise,I think tuning a gasser is MUCH easier than a Nitro. Once you have an ear for it,You'll set it and forget it, probably very rarely having to touch a needle,

You'll find this to be an outstanding heli and there are a ton of guys on here with LOTS of experience ready to help. GO For IT !

About the push pull stuff
If you decide you want to get the pull pulls for the collective and elevator as John suggests, I do have a set here I was trying to sell in the misc parts forum if you're interested -- 1/2 price of whatever the cost is
