YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH
I can handle The Truth.

I've been handling The Truth for many years, much to my great pleasure.

What I have trouble handling is that so many others have so little interest in it.

Well lets go to the book and see.
Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Slightly OT: Knowledge and Dilbert Salary Therorem
Two postulates:

Postulate 1: Knowledge is Power
Postulate 2: Time is Money

As every engineer knows: Power = Work / Time

Since Knowledge = Power

And: Time = Money

The result is : Knowledge = Work / Money

Solving for Money, we get: Money = Work / Knowledge.

Thus, as knowledge approaches zero, Money approaches infinity, regardless of the amount of work done.

Conclusion 1: The less you know, the more money you make.
Conclusion 2: Your manager makes more money than you, now you know why.

I'm laughing at the apt Dilbert analogies, but still weeping knowing how few will understand.

I'm drawing comfort seeing what 'book' you drew them from though.

A possible epidemic of Epistemophobia would explain it.

Epistemophobia
I had to look that one up. Excellent addition to the collection.

And all comedy aside, that's a worthy contribution. To see there's actually a name for such a condition is illuminating. I shoulda known.

Epictetus:
It is impossible for a man to learn what he thinks he already knows.

Whosoever wishes to know about the world must learn about it in its particular details.
Knowledge is not intelligence.
In searching for the truth be ready for the unexpected.
Change alone is unchanging.
The same road goes both up and down.
The beginning of a circle is also its end.
Not I, but the world says it: all is one.
And yet everything comes in season.
- Heraklietos of Ephesos

Albert Einstein:
Imagination is more important than knowledge. For while knowledge defines all we currently know and understand, imagination points to all we might yet discover and create.

Immanuel Kant:
Intuition and concepts constitute ... the elements of all our knowledge, so that neither concepts without an intuition in some way corresponding to them, nor intuition without concepts, can yield knowledge.

John Adams:
The preservation of the means of knowledge among the lowest ranks is of more importance to the public than all the property of the rich men in the country.

John Naisbitt:
We are drowning in information but starved for knowledge.

Mark Twain:
If you don't read the newspaper, you are uninformed; if you do read the newspaper, you are misinformed.

Richard Cecil:
The first step towards knowledge is to know that we are ignorant.

One of my all time favorites.
John Naisbitt: We are drowning in information but starved for knowledge.
Excellent as well.
Mark Twain: If you don't read the newspaper, you are uninformed; if you do read the newspaper, you are misinformed.
I fully get his point and I love that writer's every title to the center of each's binding, but on this I'll politely disagree. This may have been true in his day and age, but today we've SO many ways to quickly confirm or refute what we 'learn' that to NOT be a daily newspaper reader is to be woefully lacking.

It is funny that you associate knowledge with the news and knowing what is going on around you. TV these days complete blows. The history channel has very few good programs on any more. Unless you feel that monster Quest is a good show. TV is almost pointless. As far as the news is concerned there is a lot of information about disasters, accidents, and death. There is also a lot of political BS on the news as well. We also enjoy diving into the lives of celebrities. Why don't we learn something technical, something interesting. Watching TV does nothing for my intelligence. I do enjoy watching TV at times but I don't learn much from TV.
