Time to renew my wifes "green card" so back to playing the game again.
The application fees are crazy now since they pretty much trippled a couple years ago. Her card has now expired but they sent us a letter saying it has been extended for a year while we wait for this new batch of paperwork to be approved.
the application fee just to remove the 2 year conditions on her residency are $545.00 and by the time the 1 year temporary extension expires she will be eligible for citizenship and not even need the renewed green card (good for 10 years). The fee to apply for naturalization is $675.00 plus any other related fees from travel and interviews/biometrics/fingerprinting.

in the meantime her foreign passport has expired and they will not renew it unless we appear in person at the embassy in DC or the consulate in San Francisco (both requiring airline tickets and hotel stays).
We also have to register our children as dual citizens and get passports from both countries (that involves even more paperwork and fees)
They (homeland security)kept her original birth certificate during her initial interview a few years ago, but they demand the original birth certificate again for renewal of her green card so we had to contact her country of birth and have all the researched again and a certified "original" sent.

Ever wonder why there are so many "illegals" here? it costs a small fortune to gain residency legaly. from the day we dicided to be together I have had to spend about $15,000 on legal fees and immigration paperwork then add the cost of travel, missed work for interviews, hotels, meals and other travel expenses plus future paperwork. It took over a year to get approval for her 90 day fiance visa to come here and get married.

Don't let anyone tell you that your spouse will become a citizen when you marry them, lol. Lots and lots of government red tape attatched to that wedding dress.

Impacting the earth one heli at a time

You should have gotten married first before bringing her in, it would have been cheaper. My Wife and I were married in Australia before we moved to Hawaii and the Visa cost us under $400.00 AUD. Her green card last 10 years before it expires, but she will go for Citizenship after she has been here for 3 years. The immigration and Visa will rake you over the coals to get the most money out of you.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick
