Looks nice. Hopefully it's setup for a 6s 5000 lipo and run upto 560mm blades like the L500. That would be nice.

I don't crash... I land with style

^^^lmao dont get your hopes up.

theres ia a huge size difference between the 500-550 size helis!

its like saying i hope there is a converion kit to make my 450 a 500 size heli.

in this case the conversion would include a longer boom/tt and longer blades primarily.

like going 60 to 90. did that one before, years ago.

the 450 to 500 wouldn't work due to parts sizeing through out the machine but the 500 to 550 would be just a stretch and power upgrade.

the picture above is a 500 with longer blades, boom, tt, canopy.

very doable.

Not likely. The T-REX 500 is really a 425 class electric which is significantly smaller than a 550 class. Assuming this machine will run 550-560mm size main blades, the standard T-REX 500 head(which swings 425mm mains) will NOT be able to accomodate the larger blades. Looking at the pic, I'm pretty sure the 550 will end up running the same head as the T-REX 600 as the difference in size between a 550 and a 600 class electric are small. The relationship between a 550 vs 600 class electric is akin to a 30 vs 50 size nitro. Do some research on the Outrage 550, Logo 500, or Swift 16/550 and you will see what I mean.

i would think it may be possible but maybe not.

the pic above of the 550 certainly looks like 500 mechanics to me. i could see a head change perhaps but looks like we'll have to wait to get a definitive answer on what align plans to do. i do like the idea of a stretched 500 with 500-550 mm blades.

maybe just wishful thinking. i like the sound of it either way.

whats the chance of it just looking similar in design to the T500; i mean do you reckon it has 610/full-size servos and a 10mm mainshaft? i notice a slight difference in the frame, and the boom block is longer than my 500's! also it has a frame mounted tail-servo.

dude the answer is no, theres no way it would work. the 500 parts are simply to small for the job of a 550 heli.

not sure if you read what i said in the way it was intended.
if you look at the boom-block and the bottom-plate, they look very much like the 600E - so what i reckon is that this '550' will be 600 parts on a new frame, ie, a frame that only looks like the T500's.

Why does Align have such a goofy naming convention for their helicopters? Why don’t they use the same rules (blade length) for naming all their helicopters?

I always thought Align named their helicopters after motor size that is used in the machine? At least on the electric line.

Its the nitro side of their naming that's all screwed up.

They should of had Trex .90 Pro and Trex .50/.55 Pro. IMO

I hope it comes out soon so I can see what the price is, Im just about to buy a new heli either 450 or 500, 550 would be nice if its not to expensive.

I cant see it being a stertched 500. The motor and packs would not fit betweent he frames of a 500.If its afbl rig, and going direct servo to swash then its pretty much going to need full size servos. It also looks like the tail servo is mounted in the frame like the 450 pros.

It would have to have a much larger diameter boom than the 500, bigger swash, mainshaft, spindle and blade grips atleast.

I often wonder, since 30 size helis have not been very popular for a few years now, people who have only been in the Hobby maybe a couple of years perhaps dont realise there more like 600 helis, the 500 is a nice size heli but more similar to a 450 size then to a 550.

Maybe they will also have a 30 size nitro soon. That’s always been the most popular size for beginners.

Looks like it has a 600 head & main gear assembly to me? Hope it uses full-size servos, if not, forget it!

Does look like 6S 3000 in that pic. I'd say there is room under the canopy for 6S 5000 no prob. Even 2x 6S 2500 packs for 12S 2500. A lot of 500 owners could do this. 12S 2500 weighs a slightly bit more than 6S 5000 but the efficiency will heaps better. Use a ICE 80HV speedie or similar. The only issue is finding a suitable motor around 500kv. Pity Scorpion don't have 4020/4025-500's.

I'm keen to replace my old 500 but not sure about the 550. Might as well get a 600 size E-heli. Wish Align would scale down the latest version of their 700E into a 600E HV, plenty of room for a 10-12S lipo stick below. Or scale up the 450 Pro to 600E HV for direct drive servos, invert motor as well. All much like Mikado's designs.
