I am on the board of my local flying club, and am one of the only heli flyers, therefore I was assigned the task of helping make the heli judging form for our upcoming annual mall show. So far, helis havent been fully considered, so we decided to include their own catagory, and really arent sure of how to fully judge them. To give you an idea, last years winner in "heli" was a newly built trex600esp stock. This was over numerous other machines that I would say were of a much higher caliber.

Heres my ideas so far, and any are appreciated, as well as links to sites that have what I seek. There may be a few at most scales, and probably more pod and boom, but I think they could be judged the same, in different categories.

Heli Judging

Mechanical Build-
-Correct Build- all parts acct for and in proper location.
-Detail of build- scratch marks on bolt heads, excessive glue, etc
-mechanical correctness- all geometry correct
-difficulty of build

Aesthetic properties-
-overall “beauty” of entire heli
-canopy beauty- Detailing, cleanliness, condition

Thanks for any help!

I can see judging a Scale build but a everyday flyer? Why not print up ballots and let the public decide. That's how we handle our mall shows.

I agree, but we are paper driven, and need criteria, so this is the way it is.

Everyday fliers can be better then one another.....ie everything can be judged.

Good luck. Seems like a awful lot of trouble. One things for sure someone will be happy with your choice and the rest won't. Since your in charge than it should be your call.

try AMA
Hiya
Why not check out I think its the AMA on your side of the pond. Or contact Peter Wales, both are experts in scale judging.

In this side of the pond we have the BMFA and a guy called Dennis Stretton.

All these people will have some more hard and fast rules with regard scale competitions, and why not use them as a starting block and alter to suit yor membership or entrants.

Its a thought.

Thats what I was looking for.

This isnt necessarily ama based, so if anyone has any other ideas, Id appreciate them as well.
Thanks all.
