Hi Guys
Could anyone out there in the UK help me source a good spray shop that would be interested in spraying my large Bell 430. Most of the spray shops in my area would only offer to spray it a single colour whereas I am looking for someone to take on a proper scale paint job. I dont mind travelling a reasonable distant to get a good job. I actually live in Devon.
Thanks in advance

Try this
Hi Phil

You not happy to do it yourself?
I did! (and as they say if I can do it...anyone can!)

Its all in the preparation and getting a good paint. DONT USE Halfords paints!

You could also try getting in contact with Peter Robertson (he's in your neck of the woods). If he doesn't know then.....well he doesnt know I suppose

let us know if thats of any help!

Adrian

Thanks guys I will get in contact with Peter and pick his brains to see if he knows anyone. Hopefully he will remember me as I sold him a X-cell 60 a while back.
As far as doing it myself is concerned, yes you are right I should have a go myself, I have sprayed sevweral myself in the past but I was looking for something a bit fiddley and didnt want to screw it up.
Thanks again.

Hi AdeH,

You say in your post "DONT USE Halfords paints!"

I was going to start spraying my new fuselage with car paint from halfords, what's the reason to not use them ?

Regards Stebbo

Halfords Paint
Hiya Stebbo.

I say that because I have had too many bad experiences with it! I am no expert but like yuou have searched and explored all the options.
And ruined a scale fuselage into the bargain.

It isn't fuel proof for one, it isn't petrol proof (despite what Halfords say!). So you do need a lacquer.
Lacquer yellows in time and the paint CAN fade.

I once tried Halfords with A.N Other brand and they conflicted really badly. So you need to use exclusively one brand (ideally)
I personally find it too watery.
You need a good primer too (in my opinion!)

Now in the pursuit of fairness, I dare say many others on this forum have used it with success, and of course these are only my opinions.

Now it can be argued you get what you pay for. You pay £5.99 for Halfords Paint.
I use 2 pack (which you can get something very similar made into an aerosol), it set me back £12.99 a can.

You may have great success, and if you do brillient! I didn't

Regards
Ade

Hi Ade,

Thanks for the reply, the info is most useful. I'm building a fuselage for an electric heli so the fuel proofing is not an issue but I'll experiment with different paints before i start on the fuselage.

Regards Nick.
