I recently purchased an item from GrandRC at what I thought was a great deal, only to find out an hour later, the price went down by $40. I sent them a note asking to get the better price, and they issued a credit to my card. Awesome.

Later I found out the better price was a mistake, and it was posted for only a couple hours. I'm pretty impressed they honored the lower price for me... I wouldn't have been upset if they came clean and didn't give me the better price.

It brought back a memory of a not so different situaton with another online retailer. I'll leave their name out of here, but I bought a heli bundle and 2 weeks into my build I got a phone call asking for more money. Evidently one of the items wasn't included in the price, but it was advertised as included, and was shipped to me. This is a reputable store, with online advertising here.

It just struck me as quite a contrast...
GrandRC honors an accidental price even after I have a contract for a higher price. At store B I have a contract, delivery, and they try to get more money. (ultimately cost me $500 more than I bought it for)

Mistakes happen... customer service is about what happens when they do.

Thanks GrandRC. Store B - Take notes.

Yeah Grand RC is top notch!

I have to comment though, If that "one item" they forgot to add the price in at store B cost about $500 then you had to of known somthing just wasnt right before you clicked "send payment"...

Yeah, I hear you on the 'too good to be true' part... but it was advertised as a screaming deal noone could touch. When it was said and done I paid retail for everything. Now is that a screaming deal?

BTW - it was a $2,200 package for $1,700.

What is your definition of a 'screaming deal' on a $2,200 purchase?

From a retailer, my definition of a screaming deal would be free shipping, or $50 off But from the classifieds or something I would expect a screaming deal to be at least $500 off.

This is another good use for one time use credit card numbers from the bank. If I buy anything on line I use these things and make the maximum value a few bucks more than the price I expect to pay. That way, they cant come back and hit you for more, the card can only be used once and for the amount you value it at.

Toby,

Great story and thanks for sharing. I normally buy from one of three online helicopter vendors. However one of the three is my "go to" store that I always go to first when I need (want) something related to our hobby.

Before I divulge the name I would like to share my story. Based on a friend's recommendation I placed an order with the mystery store for two 500-size helicopters and all the associated parts needed to put them in the air.

In a matter of a few short days I received a large box, a very good sign. Though when I opened the box my first thought was that they had messed up and sent me someone else’s package. At the top of the box were items that I had not ordered including several shirts, a hat, a large banner and other miscellaneous items. Strange, someone had also thrown in some mints (hint). I dug through the rest of the contents to discover all of the items I ordered had been shipped and nicely packed.

Some of you already guessed the store based on the hint, ReadyHeli.com. They are well known for including mints with every order. In my humble opinion ReadyHeli is price competitive; carries a nice selection of helicopters, parts and accessories; and ships fast. I also like the layout of their web site.

Dave

P.S. This is not a paid endorsement nor do any of my family members own the company.

I've had great luck with both GrandRC and ReadiHeli, but I have to say, ReadiHeli didn't give me mints in a few orders, and I felt slighted. You're right about ReadiHeli being fast. I live in CA, about 80 miles from GrandRC. I've received orders from ReadyHeli in less than 48 hours - that's coast-to-coast with free shipping! Of course, GrandRC is also fast, and I've received orders from them in under 24 hours a few times.

Thanks for the great comments guys... I have a bunch of favorite stores - GrandRC, ReadyHeli, Ron's Heliproz. All have great customer service, and I've spent way to much money at all of them. (my wife added it up for me )

As for the other retailer, I've bought a few things there since. It's just not in my primary rotation any more.

grandrc decided to escalate a argument i have had with them over there return policy, Eddy flat lied on the forums at helifreak and made a big stink because i dont like there return policy. [not to mention my emails were not returned and i had to post on here to get a responce] fast responce taking money but they cave under a little heat

I do not reccomend grandrc as there the only vendor i have had problems with.

These are all stand up %100 great comany's that have been a pleasure to deal with and get my hats off to

We all have our favorite shops. I don't mind paying a little bit more from someone if their customer service is top notch but I don't want to be caught bended over either.

In this case Grandrc did the honorable thing. They goofed up and bit the bullet. As for the other store, yes $500 is a big goof up, but it was still their fault. They should have never contacted you.

I went to trade a acoustic guitar in once, they quoted $120 and I said I would think about it. I came back a day or two later and the salesman I was going through was not there. They only wanted to give me $60. Did I mention it's shelf price new was almost $300? I argued a little bit and they eventually gave me the quoted price after calling the first salesman at home. Now, I'm not 100% happy with the service that day but I still think they did good.

However, I have learned that most of their "lowest prices" are usually higher than other stores, but that's a diffrerent threat.

Eddy flat lied last week at HF thats not only not me he has lost all credibility. I had to post a thread here just to get him to respond to my original question's. he acted like a kid who didnt get his way and there was a huge group that agreed about avoiding him.

over the last couple of years he's been trashed in a few forums and mostly for shipping issues. I have not seen the other vendors trashed.

Ive spent thousands elsewhere withour a hiccup and had not so much as a slight problem with the rest.

what it comes down to is I spent good money for junk and i dont like his return policy.

he was great before that.
