I am looking to get a fairly nice camcorder and i am not sure which options are more important.

In just the little looking online i have noticed the High Def. cameras seam to have much less optical zoom than standard def. cameras.

I plan on mostly using the camera for recording at the field but my wife i am sure will find plenty to use it for.

Is 25 x optic zoom enough for recording most stuff at the RC field? or would i be better off with 60x to 80x times zoom at a loss of no High Def?

Couple i am looking at

I guess i left myself open for that one

After those two links i guess i am looking on the lower end of cameras. I guess my biggest question is if 25x optical zoom is enough for filming RC aircraft or should i forget about the HD camera and get a standard def camera and go for something with 60x zoom.

My budget is around $600 tops. I am not a pro and only plan on filming guys at the field so they can have something to take home and crow over

Thanks

Dave

I wouldn't bother with anything not HD. Standard definition is on it's way out the door.

If you plan on watching the videos you create on an HD set or computer screen then you'll be dissappointed with SD quality.

This camera has been on my radar for a year or so. Amazing picture and a pretty good price. You can pick them up at Costco for mid $500. If you don't like it, take it back in 90 days or less.

Yes, those cameras i linked to are too expensive 25x optical zoom will be fine for most of the filming. It will be very hard to track an aircraft with just a lcd screen, i would reccommened one with a viewfinder, it will make tracking much easier in my opinion.

This is one of the cameras i'm currently

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DCR-DVD3...l/dp/B000M3H1JS

but it takes dvds(which is not too bad as i use dvd-rw)

i use the canon hf20...

looks wonderful on HD tv. looks fair on computer, even a 64 bit brand new laptop struggles with the HD video....i imagine a desktop with "real" dedicated hardware decoding would do better.

hf200 has no internal memory, hf20 has 32gb built in..
