I think with the new flybarless systems (which weren't really around in the olden 3D days with old servos) newer stronger and faster servos are more important than they used to be.

Things are much cheaper now. I think higher expenses are good for keeping idiots away from the hobby. Having things too cheap gives guys the "crashing every weekend is ok coz repairs are cheap" mentality and thats annoying to the rest of us. So Keep prices high i say!!!

Right - cause we all know wealthy people aren't idiots, fly conservatively and don't crash.

Thankfully ALL things electronic eventually drop in price. Economy of scale.

servos
I remeber back in the day my JR servos were running in the 90 to 100 range. After getting out of flying and finally getting back in 4 years later I still run JR8311 and JR 8417. I have some 8717 on My Synergy and people laugh when they see my "old" servos but they work just fine and hold just as good. Like the other guys say fly what you can afford and what you know.

You have to remember that todays helis fly faster, are capable of more pitch, higher headspeeds, more powerful engines and flying style is much more aggressive, all of which require faster higher torque servos.

The only reason I wont buy 8717's is because there are other servos out there with similar specs for half the price. Im not too bothered about speed .14 is fast enough for me but torque is important to me, the more the better.

60% of the time, it works every time!
