This is our own fault.
Turn up at our field with a raptor and people give you crap.
Not if you equip it with subprime electronics and an older engine and outfly all of them with it.

I will say Align servos will do the job performance wise but once they go (crash, binding or worn out ) you cant get them repaired or replaced if this doesn't matter to you then fine, I feel that if you spend a little more money you get more out of JR/Futaba servos because of customer service and replacement.Airtronics are still my favorite but not rated for 8V yet.

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)

I think its just a case of the "latest and Greatest" No one says you have to purchase 150. servo's--- its up to you, if you think its going to make you a better pilot than go for it, but yes, it can get rediculous ! The real question is are you having Fun in the hobby or competing with what the other guy might be flying I still think analog servo's and flybars are fine but what do I know
Come on, everyone needs a $150 450oz titanium gear servo on the throttle

I see people all the time flying with servo's that I would only use to steer my Rock crawler. Its like "really" that servo will move a 10 pound rock in my crawler and your using it to just move the cyclic?

Maybe 10 people ive seen had issues with align servos.Ive seen more issues with JR/futaba servos than align since ive been in the hobby, guy at our club has 3 brand new S9252's lockup in less that 2 months or so,hes now flying Align DS610's with NO issues..
Really... Was he running them @ 6 Volts..?

The 9252 is a very good servo.

ok ok ok.. i need to chime in here.. i have 8717's and i have flown 9252's and align DS servos.. by far the 8717s smoke the other 2 i have flown sure i notice the difference but i doubht highly that a new person would .. DONT GET HIGH END SERVOS TILL YOU CAN FLY HIGH END.. that is all in fact high end servos make a heli HARDER to fly since newbies are overcompensating when in a hover or turn anyways this just makes them over compensate faster.. and for a longer time .. so get a nice set of 9252's from the classifieds for 100$ for 3 and go fly after a few years save up and get the 150 a pop servos and you will be satisfied... end 0 punctuation rant
The 9252 is a very good servo.

Airtronics are still my favorite...
Mine too. I've got 5 94758's (.06 s, 115 oz") on a 90 and two 50's which after 3 years are still going strong. Only one has ever required repair after a crash. Airtronics service is second to none in my experience -- I paid shipping only.

Got several of 'em on planks as well -- no problems here either. Planks really come alive with fast servos on ailerons and elevator. Looks like this excellent old workhorse servo model is being phased out though, but newer Airtronics models with nearly identical specs are following in its substantial footsteps.
... but not rated for 8V yet.
Lack of direct 8v connectivity is no big deal to me cuz at 6v they flippin' rock.

The differance between futaba and JR servos compared to the align servos is JR and Futaba stand behind their products a lot better then Align does, JR being the best of the three and align service being non-existant.
Edit: Unless you buy directly from a Good retailer like Heliprozs who will stand behind whatever they sell, if you buy overseas, your toast on warrentee.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

Doesn't Horizon Hobby (hobby services) import/distribute Align products? They are the same people who import JR products.
Service doesn't come from the manufacture - it comes from the importer/distributor.

---
edit: nevermind. It looks like horizon only brings in helicopters - not Align servos.

Servos these days seem expensive, I never seem to remember thinking servos were so expensive in previous years, even Align servos seem expensive to me. (If you buy a 500 size heli kit for $400-$500 your up for $75 * 4 servos, $300 )

The worst seems to be 450 size servos, HS65 450 servos are more expensive that HS82 500 size, and the 82`s have better specs.

I dont have any evidence, just cant remember servos being such a big ticket item in comparison to the cost of a heli.

That there, is giant spoonfuls, of rich creamy irony

300 dollar servos are dear8717, 7940th.... 150 buck servos are high end.BLS, JR . 80 buck rebadged savox servos...... that is really good value.

I don't need $150 dollar servos but I like them. It sucks having to buy them. I try to have some extras when I find a good deal on them that way when I start a new build I won't have to buy the servos at the same time Just thinking ahead. lol

That's part of the reason why I had so much fun last season flying $30 clone 450 helis fitted with $3.5 cyclic servos ! My machines fitted with the $100+ servos mostly sat idle in comparison to the 450's . I had one tail failure on a 450 which resulted in a hard 'arrival' and stripped the gears in all three cyclics , $10 replaced all three servos , I could have been even cheaper and just replaced the gearsets for a couple of dollars .

Obviously there is a big difference between a $3 9g servo and a full size digital cyclic or tail servo , but does that really justify the monumental price difference between the two ?

At the end of the day , it gets dark .
