Yes, I have a friend who went or a vacation for a week. The main batteries went dead. He had to call a wrecker to pull it to the dealer.

Seems like the problems keep piling up on Toyota (2000-2003 Tundra pickup trucks.)

The automaker says the trucks' frame could rust and lead to the spares falling from beneath the vehicle.

http://www.wptv.com/content/news/st...oZduNXD06g.cspx

I was thinking that the accelerator problem was for certain Toyota models, but not the Prius. Wasn't the Prius being recalled for brake problems?

Don't be surprised if the guy was just speeding. I bet we see more on this story.

On that car gear shifter is not mechanical like old schools.

I been talk about on regular off topic before.

I think a lot of modern car will have that kind of issues one day or another, just that Toyota happens to be the first.

Too much Computer Controlled systems.

Like my sister trail blazer on of the first ones she had. All the lights will go DARK at random, driving at night and poof all lights goes off. Turn out to be Bad Body Control Module.

Well Toyota and every other car out there engine is controlled by computer as well as transmission. Drive by wire.

Throttle Body is basically a Servo.
and Gas pedal is nothing but POT like in transmitter.

Don't tell me you never had glitch or servo failure in your heli experience.

Note to toyota,

Install a kill switch to cut power to computer.

a 5 cent item could have saved millions in recalls.

fwiw...many years ago, many, lol, I had a Plymouth Duster 340 that was heavily modified. I installed a 750 Holley dbl pumper carb, took her out for a test ride, punched it and the throttle stuck wide open! Shut the key off as I was approaching a curve, turned the key to far and locked the steering and still had time to realize this and turn it one notch to unlock and save me and the car, barely. Filled my pants too. Linkage was rubbing a bracket and stuck. Now keep that lesson in mind. Fast forward a couple of years, me and the gal on a camping trip in NJ over by Cape May. Decide to head to Wildwood for some partying, pull out of the campground and a deserted coastal hwy, feeling young and spunky I nail the crap out of it (the Duster, she came later), I was hauling the freight, catching rubber in 2nd and 3rd. Then I look up and there is a state trooper sitting off to the side of the road about 20 feet, split second decision time as he already had got me in excess of 90mph, I kept the throttle down and flew right on by him! Then I shut the car off, pull to the side of the road, run around and open the hood and just as my finger unhooked the throttle return spring he walked around to the front of the car. I was panicked beyond belief, grabbed my chest, oh my god oh my god I couldn't stop the car, LOOK the darn spring came free. Man I was shaking soooo bad and scared (21 years old), but used ALL of that emotion directed towards the car and not being able to stop, not at going by him. My gal, now my wife of 29 years, was in tears of laughter in the car. The state boy? Bought it hook line and sinker. Can you fix this? I think so sir, I'll add some wire to make sure. Well you be careful son, you went by me at 95mph!
Wonder if the California Prius guy had a similar problem? LMAO.
We still laugh about this to this day. Wish I still had the car too. It was sweet. 430 gears, B&M auto, Weiand high rise, Lunati cam and gear train, line lock, headers, solid lifters, holley 750, electric fuel pump, and a set of 557 gears (whole pumpkin) that I could swap in 45 minutes. She was built for going fast! Car was too

The tundra recall is a joke. They claim a spare tire may fall off due to rust. You may hit a potholl and break the truck in half is more like it.

The Prius will always shut down if you hold the power button for 3 seconds.
Not if the computer has gone beserk. That three secound delay is timed by the computer, if the software/firmware has screwed up it may never look at the button again.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I tested my maxima out this morning. three quick pushes shut it down cold and a 3 second hold did the same.

I wonder if Nissan has a routine in the software so that the 3 second or 3 consecutive push takes precedent over all other commands?

Stupidity can be cured. Ignorance is for life!

I don't know about Nissan, but if you zoom ahead to 2:10 in this youtube, you will see how VW handles the problem. Maybe Nissan does the same?

I had GMC van that was a few 3 winter old and spare tire fell out of it due to rusty chain holding it up. Good thing it happened on quiet Vermont Highway and nobody was following me close by. NO Recalls.

The memo said both the front and rear brakes were worn and damaged by heat, consistent with Sikes saying that he stood on the brake pedal with both feet and was unable to stop the car. But if the fail-safe system worked properly, the brakes wouldn't have been damaged because power would have been cut to the wheels.
