I bought a heli from someone and it came without an esc. So I bought a stock RCE=BL60G and installed it, but when I turned the TX on and pluged up the battery it smoked the esc. I've never smoked an esc the entire time I've been flying helis, this just blows my mind. I never touched the throttle, all I did was plug in the flight pack. Any ideas what to check for?

I have over 600 flights on an Align ESC (stock one for my T-rex 500) with no issues. It burnt because of my motor.

Might help if you posted info on motor battery and so on. I fried one in a plank awhile back. Just plugged it in to fly and then smoke, heat than dead. Anything can die at anytime even BFN out of the box.

I had one work for around 40 flights and one day when I plugged it up it smoked... I don't think you did anything wrong they just do that sometimes, it would be good to hear what your setup is though.

Ok, now I'm really ticked!!!! I thought maybe it was just the esc went bad. So I got out my backup and istalled it, and the same darn thing happened again!!!!!!!!!! Now I know it's not just the esc's, maybe the motor? It's just a stock setup on a CF version, nothing special. But that's 2 esc's now so something is definstely wrong, any ideas????

I've seen both motors and ESCs release smoke when they tried to start and there was too much load on the motor to turn. Some of the nicer ESCs have a "start-power" setting to tune this, and most will remove power if the motor doesn't turn in a few seconds. I don't think the Align ESCs have either of these features.

Make sure the motor is still healthy and that it spins freely, i.e., no nuts, bolts or washers have fallen into the motor. Make sure none of the motor poles are cooked/shorted. They should all have roughly the same resistance.

I'm using the RCM-BL500L on a 6S li-po, everything is pretty much a stock setup but when I plug the esc into the reciever and try to plug a battery up I get alot of arcs like there's something shorted!

Also, are you using the built-in BEC or an external one to power your radio?

I don't know about a "lot" of arcs but with a high voltage setup like that there will always be a spark when you plug up because of the capacitors.

Yea, maybe that just my imagination playing tricks with me! But what should I look for, I guess I'll have to take all the electronicsout of the heli and start from scratch but I don't have another esc for now!
