Knock on wood, I haven't doushed in any of my planks but I am only sport flyer. Got to be carefull cross RC-ing.
Airplanes have turned into a real F.U. The cost of them has gotten rhediculous. $150 for a 400 class balsa electric? Two years ago it was $75 to maybe $100. You know they are paying $25 to have those planes made in China and the support needed is nil. Like how many planes would come back with a defect needing warranty? I am seeing a lot more "frankenplanes" at the field as most people are having to fix rather than replace.
When my funds are low, I quit taking chances with my aircraft/heli's.

I've flown Planks for many more years than heli's and found planes were more forgiving overall, some epoxy or hotglue and you are back in the air barring a total nose down crash
To really fly on the cheap I would buy a 4 ft by 50 ft bluecor foam and make about 30 3D foamy's out a 38 dollar bunch of foam-- minus electronics of course. Eventually became bored with planes when bit by the "Heli-bug" for whatever reason, there is just something about these Stinken heli's that planks don't have Only my opinion, I'm not a plank-hater
