Ok I have a 9254 on the tail now, but want that for another project and a 9257 is the cheaper route

Consider an align DS650 for the tail. Its $75 so a little bit more than the 9257 but its a full size and so it helps with CG not to mention being faster and way more torque than 9257.

I have an Align DS620 on mine combined with a GY 520. Got it second hand but unused from someone who sold them out of a Trex 600 kit along with the matched GP750 gyro. Gyro's on my CopterX with a DS520 I has on my Protos. Long story short - great combo.

The DS650 is just short of twice the speed of the 620, at least on paper. I have no way of actually testing its true speed of course :-)

DS650 Features:
- Ultra-speed servo for instant tail control reaction. (0.048sec/60 deg).
- 12 Bits 4096 signal resolution for smooth movements.
- Ultra Performance Coreless Motor with fast reaction and low current.
- Hardened high strength metal gears that increase the lifetime.
- Aluminum alloy mid case construction for instantaneous heat dissipation, maintaining servo’s high efficiency.
- Supports digital & analog control signal.
- Powerful and precise servo, suitable for T-Rex 600/700 rudder use.

Specs:
- Stall torque: 4.0kg.cm(4.8V), 5.0kg.cm(6.0V)
- Motion speed: 0.058sec/60°(4.8V), 0.048sec/60°(6.0V)
- Rating voltage: DC 4.8-6V
- Temperature range: -20°C~+60°C
- Dimension: 40.3 x 20.1 x 36mm
- Weight: 56g

Includes:
- Servo rudder piece x3
- Set screw x1
- Rubber damper x4
- Brass grommet x4
- Tapping screw for servo x4

9257 The protos is meant to be light. That is the whole design. Why put more weight when the 9257 works like a charm.

Embrace failure because without it success would be normal.

I have found that 9257 does hold as good as full size servos in some hard moves.

I use an Align 520 (same specs as the 9257) on 6v on my Protos and it works great.

ultimate tr servo for Protos is the BLS251, as dmitry mentiones for most part the 9257 adn similar in spec will do ok, but when you push hard on reversals etc, and in super fast knife edge pyhsics transistions etc the FS servo rules and it shows.Protos benifits from the extra weight on tail as well expecially if you want to run larger then 2500mah 25C packs, which now many do in the 40+C range etc...

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

I agree with this.
I thought the 9257 worked ok until I tried the BLS251. It makes all the difference!!!
You will get a new tail, almost fool proof.

And it helps to balance the heli as it's nose heavy.
