Would you please post pictures? I will say this again, aluminum booms don't bend without outside forces. It is not carbon, even if it was kinked at the boom support clamp, it wouldn't just snap off.
as a matter of fact the boom was indented where the aluminum holder tightened
Is that indentation on the side of the boom, just in front of the support? How loose do you run your blades?

If it creased it all the way around it could easily cause a crack that would pretty quickly propogate all the way around, the vibration is the key to that crack spreading. Especially if it was a sharp crease in the boom. Once it lets loose that belt is shredded toast and we have the next heli parts yardsale. I would definately like to see the pics of the part that was left in the clamp.

Undoubtedly, with every completely new design first buyers are testing the product.
This maxima is true with even the best manufacturers like MA.

Check Heliproz South as well for parts. Also on this new heli I would suggest you give Heliproz a call and see if they have or can get the parts.

This is why you never buy the first year new model car or after a major design change

It's not a design flaw, it's a build issue. Just something to becareful of when you tighten the clamp. I have always just done that due to my normal job dealing with metal. Not everyone does. Be mindful not to crush what you are clamping.

Have you personally called MA? Maybe they can find a replacement boom for you and deliver it upstairs to HeliProz?

I dont think its fair to start this post and let it boil without any supporting pictures just b/c your're upset. Give me a break. If you were genuinely concerned about how this happened, you would let others that know more than you take a look. Is there an alterior motive here????

Horacio,

He stated in one of his later posts that he overthightened the foward boom clamp. There is your culprit. Crushed boom+vibrations= yardsale.

This does not appear to be an isolated incident. I witnessed Fury 55 boom failures personally. So be carefull not to turn this into a blame the user game.

Some richard craniums at ACE tried to do that to me and others with the POS Redline 53 carb. In the end they were seen for what they were - manufacturer reps trying to blame a defective product on the users.

I could be wrong, but the OP's "that's a funny one" comment when questioned about the blade looseness/tightness could be his way of showing displeasure at what appears to be the blame the user game. That happens alot here on RR as it is too populated with reps.

If the boom clamp is able to be easily overtightened, that may be a problem in itself caused by improper tolerances. The lack of proper edge radiusing or chamfering on the clamp may also contribute to boom failure.

If nothing else, this issue deserves further inquiry.

I am not a rep for anyone, however I do like to get to the root cause of issues. I don't care who is to blame. That is irrelevant to me. It's the cause that intrigues me. The purpose of this post is to find the cause, spread the word so nobody else suffers the same fate. As for this one, sounds like a crimped boom could have been the cause, at the very least it's a contributing factor. Mine should be delivered tomorrow, I am anxious to see it.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

It seems this is a case of pull the pin, toss the grenade and run.

its more than just a damaged boom. Helicopters also hit the ground when they crash.

It certains seems like a design issue with the metal clamps, if the design allows for overtightening.

Regarding Bobby's two boom strikes, could they be related to the new light duty rotor head and mechanics ?
