I'm guessing its the weave.. or lack thereof. there's no reason a woven tube won't work, although the rigidity transfers more load to the gears, but a tube composed of linear fibers would fray under high load

the above poster is spot on.

when MA used normal carbon tubes they suffered a lot of failures. they changed to a particular weave to cure it at the time. a couple of friends had furys at the time and both suffered these niggles now and then i do recall. maybe they got unlucky but new type of tube cured it. i'm far from an MA expert on that one.

normal carbon tubes are not designed to take the rotational loads we need it for so can split along the length.

can carbon tubes be made to do the job-absolutely no question they can be. if you can find the right type of carbon tube then i don't see a problem other than higher cost than alum.

since this thread is in an align 600 forum it is worth noting that if you touch the tail on a 600 you won't break the TT anyway, you will break the gears 99% of the time.

to answer the Q about the velocity ends- the ends of the velocity do fit in the align gears ok. i have never flown one in my 600 altough i've toyed with stretching it a little using a cut down 700 boom and velocity TT/ends. please let us know how you get on if you try it. the parts are cheap enough and i'm 99% certain it will work fine.

cheers

Thanks for the crash savings raptorheli2! Some good info there. I guess I have to take my tail off to get the number from the arrow. I will try and do it this evening. The guy at the archery shop said that it was an odd size. I will post the #'s here. Have a good one,
David

tt shaft
As the owner of an archery shop and a heli flier I have made many TT shafts out of EASTON 2020 XX-75 shafts. They work very well and are lighter than OEM TT shafts. Make a jig for drilling the pin to be sure they are centered.

Sort of funny to see this thread.. for a long time folks were posting about wanting a TT upgrade for align helis.. now with the 700 the TT is too expensive...

maybe there will be a belt option in the future - lol...

It is not so much as being cheap as it is when you can't get your hands on one, and you don't want to put the belt back in. Thanks uncle Ty, I wish that I had checked your post before I tore my tail off! Since I already have, Here are the pics, and uncle Ty gives the numbers that are too small to read in the pics. I picked up a set of Outrage ends today as raptorheli2 said and they fit very nice. I thought as long as I had the TT out, I might as well try something different. I will consider it a "new piece of tail"

i can't find anything here 2020, can find 2016 is only thing. i recall looking for shafts before this size without much luck.

is there a product code or any links to these?

edit-i can't even see gamegetter shafts available in 2020 period. the only 2020 spine (i assume thats what we need?) is this-

The shop owner and I took a caliper in the back room where there was boxes of old arrows. He fount this one and checked with this cool little roller to see if it was straight and gave it to me. I was checking out a set of Align ends and saw where there is room to turn them down to fit a thinner wall, above the existing smaller diameter part that fits the thicker stock tube, and it will fit perfect for either wall thickness. Does that make any sense whatsoever?? Perhaps I will ignore my responsibilities for a while longer, and go to the shop so I can send a pic. I was always told that a picture is better.
I will stop bt the archery shop next time I am in the area and see what he says about getting that arrow.
Have a good one,
David

i think the arrow you have there is a game getter 2016 as thats the closest size to what would be required.

did you file the align ends down?

cheers

we used to use Easton shafts, but that was way back when, and with MA birds. Just something to look into.

Raptorheli the post about LEGACY 2020 is correct. order shafts only you don't need the turkeys hanging on the end.
