The red locktight will probably do the trick. I got away with blue for a little while. You will need a torch to take it off for sure. I havent tried the red, It might do the trick w/out the flat. Be careful with grinding on that 5mm shaft if you do. I have broke every one that I messed with. Your rigs look awesome!. Nice kits, they look like they didn't leave anything out. Let me know how those packs are working.

Due to the small increase in voltage and small decrease in peak amps, there is very little benefit or increase in performance, for the additional expense of upgrading from 6s to 8s.

Ultimate efficiency and performance can be achieved with 10 or 12s setups, due to the significant increase in voltage with minimal cost.

Even considering upgrading my smaller T-Rex 500 to 8s for more performance.

We'll I'm not looking for a 600 that's so fast it's a blur, I want a good 3d heli and a 8s 600 is awesome for that

Here's the logic...

3D manoeuvres demand huge power, power = amps x volts

8s = 4025-890kv\2700watts = 29.6volts x 95amps

12 = 4025-630kv\2700watts = 44.4volts x 65amps

Compared on Scorpions website

While in theory both setups could produce 2700watts of power, an 8s setup is at the expense of:-

- very high amps,
- makes the packs work very hard to produce high amps,
- packs run hotter producing high amps,
- reduces pack life cycles because they work harder,
- causes a greater drop in voltage when producing high amps,
- causes the capacitors in the esc to work harder to deliver high amps,
- increases chance of esc fire when degrading packs can't produce high amps,
- high amps cause motor to run hotter,
- heat degrades magnetism of motor magnets,
- wires run warmer so dissipate energy as heat,

I could go on...

As with any setup, a 12s can be geared for an efficient AP to insane 3D power machine, it doesn't have to be a blur...

Ya I know all that but the problem is the 8s setups I've seen run cool already an I don't want to buy a 10s esc or charger lol... And if my zippys last a year I'll b happy

You wouldn't have to buy an expensive, over priced 10s or 12s charger...

As long as the packs remain paired, two cheap B6 chargers can be used, to charge in pairs.

If you'd seen a 12s setup, bet you'd go 12s over 8s.. lol...

+1 with Michael. The majority of Trex-600E pilots is still on 6s, so moving to 8s is already an upgrade for cooler temperature and higher headspeed. Unlike Michael, I'll go for the single 8s packs, but still waiting for the X-Era motor to be in stock. That will be a week or 2 away.

Can't beat the ability to charge 2 x 8s packs on the Bantam BC8DX which I already have

Michael,
I went ahead and did the 3rd bearing block mod today before I assembled. I used a friends old 600n frame as my template and it turned out nice. You have to use the screws from a 600n to hold it in place due to the increased hole size on the 600n frame but no biggie...

awesome looks great... i tried to finish my heli last night but didn't so gotta wait til i get back from spring break... a guy at my field told me to order a extra frame support cause he said his frames flexed a little without it, he hasn't had any slop problems so there might be something with that... hopefully mine will be flying next weekend, i shorted out a balance connection so i gotta redo that connection and i bought a fma cellpro off here so i can just charge 2 at a time...

Michael,
Where are you placing your ESC? I have a 500 and the esc sits under the battery tray so I thought... Why not... What do you think?? It is far enough from the motor to escape heat... makes the placment real clean and easy to connect batteries...

Another solution for the 3rd bearing is to get a set of KDE Direct bearing blocks with thrust bearings. Use one of the stock ones for the frame stiffener. I didn't have a problem with slop in mine, I went through bearings. They work rely good and I have not had to replace any bearings so far. For what it is worth.

8s,10s or 12s pks. Doesn't really matter as long you maintain the headspeed which is around 2100 to 2300rpm for 3D on any 50 size helis.The main thing is the motor along with the esc could handle it.

finally done... went together great the one thing i was mad about was i measured out all the links exact and at 50 the head was not even close to lining up but other than that no problems.... goin to maiden today, i got some pics showing the 2 extra support bars i added to stiffen up the frames, i used the holes for zip ties so didn't have to drill
