SR SEPARATED SWASH!!!
Well, I am maybe 16 flights into my SR and I was RIPPING it through the sky making super high speed passes, doing FFF rolls and even mixed a couple flips in the mix when I noticed that it was taking a lot more collective to stay aloft. I made a couple more passes and could not keep it up any more. It ended up gently plopping down about 20 feet in front of me. I just got home and checked it out and found that the swash has separated causing excess negative pitch and not enough positive pitch.

WATCH YOUR SWASH PLATE!!!

"16 flights"

good luck with that. I have had a lot of bad experience with e-flite and taking responsability for defective parts. Got a blade 400 and the ESC fried on the 5th flight. Heli crashed because it doesn't auto well and i was inverted. They were very reluctant to give me a new esc but would not replace any parts that were damaged as a result of the crash caused by their defective ESC.

I wish you the best of luck getting parts replaced. I hope it wasn't damaged too much.

Do you have any pictures of the swashplate?

I used a pair of needle nose pliers to work the swash back together. The bearing had actually started working its way out of the swash allowing the upper and lower pieces to separate.

It has been suggested that the cold weather contributed to the issue. It has also been suggested that a drop of CA on the outside of the bearing will help keep it in place. I will give that a try if it happens again.

I called E-Flite and they said that they have not had a problem with the separated swash on the Blade SR. Others have noticed the problem before flight but no one has reported it happening in flight. They said that although there would be no way to prove that the separated swash caused a crash, you could present the idea to them and they would be willing to work with you. I have had the swash separate twice on the ground in throttle hold while messing with the pitch and both times I have simply pinched it back together with some needle nose plyers. I am really hoping this doesn't ever become a problem while in flight!Let's just say I'm still learning...Blade mSR, Blade SR, Pheonix Flight Simulator

Mine separated in flight both times. Neither time resulted in a crash. Both times I had to set down early as I was running out of positive pitch. E-Flite is well informed of the issue and sent me a replacement swash basically no questions asked. I never installed the new swash because I fixed the original by cleaning it and putting it back together with R48 (Align Retaining compound). It has not separated since then.I have a FLEET of helicopters... seriously.

I'm a beginner. I'm curious if the separated swash is going to be a problem for me if it does separate in flight. Think I'll be able to bring it down alright without damage?Let's just say I'm still learning...Blade mSR, Blade SR, Pheonix Flight Simulator
