Squealing noise?!?
Hey guys,

Last night I fitted a Scorpion 2221-8 and a new ESC into my Trex Pro.

Now when spun up to full RPM (about same headspeed) I get this really high pitched loud squeal. It comes and goes as I fly around. It seems to make a lot more noise unloaded than when the heli is loaded up during manoeuvres.

If I go full idle up on the ground then hit idle up it shortly goes, only seems to do it when the headspeed is high.

Any idea what it could be? Motor bearings? The motor has ceramic Boca bearings (orange seal) which were not cheap, I hope it wasn't them!

Power seems good still but I don't want to risk failure.

Thanks.

I noticed it has a slight clicking sound when turning just the main gear and tail gear assembly (Tail boom not attached) but does not feel rough at all and spins for ages.

Thank you for your reply.

I am also changing the motor bearings.

buy the oil from innovative designs or another heli site... motors NEED to be oiled or they will squeel.. bearings are probablt still fine. I oil mine every 6 flights or so...

Hi Snakeman, the bearings were Boca orange seal ceramics. I am guessing they were damaged in a crash.

With the standard Scorpion bearings I will oil .

Hey guys, Well I replaced the TT bearing and TT rod, tail case bearings (2x), the motor with a new one and the noise is still there maybe not quite as loud but I am not 100% on this.

It might just might be coming from the tail area as I think perhaps it is getting worse during some rudder movements.

Any ideas?

If you haven't narrowed the squeal down yet, I'd suggest removing the head all the way down to include the swash. You can then throttle up without getting whacked by the blades. I'd also remove the tail belt/torque tube. Or better yet, you could move the pinion away from the main drive gear and tighten the screws down so the motor free spins. This will tell you if the motor is the cause of the squeal without having to tear the heli appart. I agree with the whole lube thing. Innov8tive warrants everything but the bearings. If the heli has been crashed, it could be the shaft is bent. This will cause squealing.
Just my 2 cents.

you might want to check the one way bearing to make sure it isn't slipping a bit. my 500xl motor would make crazy noises when i'd hit the idle up switch but it would like lose power and it ended up being a timming issue
