Bad experence at a LHS
I called a LHS to ask for some help with my BMSR and they said sure bring it in. When I got there when the woman working there found out i had not purchased my heli from them she refused to assist me saying all i wanted was free help. I was not expecting anything for free. I have never had such a rude interaction at a hobby shop in my life with LHS employees. Sorry I just needed to vent as i am very angry right now.

You guys that have never had a business and had to support your family with it need to understand how frustrating it is that a customer spent the big money elsewhere and is now coming around looking for support that the first guy can't supply because he was cheaper.

How this is handled is what separates the rude from the smart.
Thanks, TheWoodCrafter

Nope, not buying it Roger! Treat a potential customer the same as a loyal customer and you'll end up with another loyal customer. Especially these days when a potential customer has so many other places they can go.

If you don't offer a service, what advantage is it, for the customer to come to you.

I do this every day and it works.
It don't matter how you get there, if you don't know where your going.

yup the hobby shop would have done much better to help him out and if they get him up and flying and were friendly they would prob have a repeat customer. I don't deal with ANY hobby shops anymore, I have been in way to many that are run by a holes. I get all my parts from people that actually treat you right like readyheli and powerhelis.

Insane! Just bad business. Who cares where you buy it? She should have said "here is a list of our rates and prices for repairs". I do monogramming and embroidery and have done alot for guys on here and would never turn someone away if they had work done elsewhere first. Just glad to get the biz. Now if someone said "will you do this for free cause the other guy did" then I would say hit the road but that is not what happened here. Clearly you were willing to pay if they told you.

We have a great local hobby store in town, very very small and doesn't have alot of heli stuff but he always has that small obscure little screw or part that you kind find at the other ones and he will order anything you need. A great guy to deal with. I still love my Espritmodel and readyheli though!!

we have a local hobby shop just like that.

Then they wonder why the Heli industry to them is completely dead. no one locally will buy from them. those who do, learn not to in a short time.

IMO, like mentioned already. treat the customer right, and they will come back.

Nick,
Nope, not buying it Roger! Treat a potential customer the same as a loyal customer and you'll end up with another loyal customer. Especially these days when a potential customer has so many other places they can go.
That is why I said
How this is handled is what separates the rude from the smart.
That woman let that frustration get the best of her. She didn't handle it well. I have been there and is it sometimes very hard. But being smart about it is the difference between building a business and going out of business.

You smile, grit your teeth, be sincere and help.

You said it,
Especially these days when a potential customer has so many other places they can go.

How you handle a situation is what keeps people coming back. Even though the heli was not purchased from that particular LHS it should have been in their best interest to help a person in knowing that it could possibly bring future buisness. We are at a time in the United States where we as consumers need to look for the best deals, It is not us that have created the situation but the money hungry, greedy basterds that raise the prices of things to try and get rich quick on the one sale instead of thinking long term and be concerned about selling volume to make the same money. My $.02

If you can buy it somewhere else cheaper why is the price different at his LHS? Why would you buy from somebody that is going to try and take advantage of you buy making his mark-up more. And how many things have you purchased here on RR because you didnt want to pay full price for something. I'm not trying to start something here, like I said it was my $.02. I understand you have to take care of your local hobby store, thats what keeps them in buisness, but If I can save $20 or $30 I'm going to buy it somewhere else. Thats why we purchase things here on RR, whats the difference?

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why local hobby shops go out of business.

. . . because the locals don't understand what "overhead" means.
